So weird — That Joker review wasn't in the live stream, but looks like they've now included it in the episode on adultswim.com.

I assumed it had gotten cut b/c Adult Swim has been running ads for the movie

Saw the brilliant stage show last night. First half was greatest hits: Axiom and Manuel opened the show with "DKR's first live show outside of the United States"; then Tim did a stump speech announcing a second run for D.A; Greg did a solo bit about the Victorville Film Archive and a "university lecture" with a powerpoint about the later careers of the actors from "Oh God"; Dekkar performed four songs including Bohemian Rhapsody, then Joe Estevez was introduced to a thunderous welcome and they all performed "Decker - The Play" (feat. Axiom and Manuel as terrorists). The second half was a long version of the show, ending with the audience submitting questions for "Stump the Buff" and everyone having a great time onstage. They brought the house down.

I found Gregg calling out Tim for crediting De Niro as the Joker immensely satisfying.

Strong disagree! It felt like a breaking the fourth wall thing. Everything about that review was perfect, but it was a downer that Gregg called him out on that. He should've discredited Tim just like he did, yet not go into Tim taking the Joker for DeNiro imo.

every review I've heard of the live show makes it sound like those screenings of The Room that Tommy Wiseau appears at, though obviously the OC folks are a lot more "in on it"

I haven't seen the movie, but I can confirm that DeNiro plays a different character other than the joker.

It was great to see Mark on his feet and back to making impressions again

some people in the FB group seem to have seen it. there are also a few reviews out. seem to be "OC fans are gonna love it, everyone else probably not so much" which is about what I expected

sadly the Milwaukee screening doesn't seem to be happening anymore so I forgot what day it is

btw I wonder if they're gonna review the movie in the next episode of On Cinema. how meta will this show get

I’ve let it sink in, and holy shit, is #MisterAmerica so good. Like the best of On Cinema, it’s ridiculous and wonderfully uncomfortable before pivoting into an oddly moving ending. I think it works without knowing the series - I know there are differing opinions on that.

we met him as a radio sports announcer and followed him for four radio and TV series, an Edinburgh Festival show, an Arena appearance and a presenting gig at the BAFTAs before he launched his national TV talk and variety show, which Roger would know if he actually cared about comedy. this is why people get frustrated when they come to Roger's Movie Nation, they want real expertise, not someone bloviating about a topic they hardly know about

For the trial of Tim Heidecker, did you have actors with legal experience involved, or a legal procedure consultant? I was impressed with how accurate the procedural elements were during the trial.

T: Yes, most of the lawyers and the judge were actors with legal experience. They added a lot of their actual expertise and knowledge of the legal process. We are infinitely grateful to them for their contributions.

G: The same was true of the police, medical, and emergency response witnesses

always suspected this was the case but nice to see it confirmed. i'm still in awe they were able to pull that off so convincingly

I've wondered the same thing! An astoundingly wise approach that paid off in spades. I love the amount of real-world attention and care that goes into making a work of such deep stupidity.

OTM. At the show the other night Gregg said that Mr America was "a one-or-two bagger at best". When Tim challenged him that he hadn't seen it he replied "I don't need to see it - I was there the whole time it was being made!"

Do you ever regret using your real name as your character’s name?

T: Sometimes I wonder if it would've been easier or more helpful to come up with stupid names but these are the choices we've made and we have to live with that every single day of our lives.

G: It definitely leads to schizophrenic tone to Tim's twitter account. As my Twitter account is only OnCinema related, definitely doesn't cast me in a good light overall.

Q: To what extent does someone need to know On Cinema lore to dig into this movie?

A: When we started this, we weren’t thinking about a theatrically released movie. It would just be something we put up on the Adult Swim website, as maybe a half hour. But as we were doing it, we realized it was working. It felt right. Our editor gave us a rough, two-hour cut and said “I don’t know, this feels like a movie.”

Nathan Fielder [of Nathan for You] looked at it early on and said “guys, this isn’t just for the website. This needs a poster. It needs to get reviewed.” So then we looked to restructure the first half for people who hadn’t watched anything from us.

If you watch, say, Making A Murderer or any of the thousand murder documentaries on Netflix, you don’t know everything about these people. A good documentary feeds you the backstory and moves you along. We don’t bombard you with “a film critic who started an EDM festival — “
