thames was so on that

i’m not sure that working insanely fast is in max’s best interests

mookieproof, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 00:31 (four years ago) link

Strasburg has had a 1.50 era or something since Max’s injury.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 00:31 (four years ago) link

if Martinez waits til it's 5-0 before pulling Max, would that be... Mathenaging?

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 2 October 2019 01:59 (four years ago) link

Bottom of the 7th gonna be the inflection point here. Strasberg is cruising and Hader is almost certainly going 2.

Who is this Buckner dude in RF anyways? I’ve honestly not noticed him before.

Time to open my Pilsner.

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 2 October 2019 02:59 (four years ago) link

And Buckner died this year...resurrected!

clemenza, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 03:00 (four years ago) link

No regrets going with Hader there obviously but his location was awful. Sliders not even close and high fastballs like a foot off.

frogbs, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 03:01 (four years ago) link

and just like buckner, the game had already busted wide open by the time it happened. feel bad for grisham

Giuliani avoiding the word "till" up there til he gets his hand out of it.

The Mattingly teams were definitely the most boring Yankee teams of the last century.

They had Rickey for awhile!

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 20 October 2019 14:52 (four years ago) link

I... got my info from a tweet that's been deleted. Shame on me.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Sunday, 20 October 2019 15:25 (four years ago) link

Those 80s teams were shitty but far from boring. The hirings and firings and Bronx Zoo melodrama kept on, and Winfield in addition to Rickey. Donnie Baseball was a joy.

Most boring Yankee decade was def the ten years pre-George, the Bobby Murcer/Mel Stottlemeyer teams

The Ravishing of ROFL Stein (Hadrian VIII), Sunday, 20 October 2019 16:36 (four years ago) link

If we're talking about ten consecutive years, then those pre-George years were definitely the worst. But if we're dealing with decades, then they still won three WS titles, Whitey and Mickey, Maris' record ...

The '80's teams had some good players but not a single memorable team, the hirings and firings were a sad joke because the team wasn't winning (as opposed to the 70's).

NoTimeBeforeTime, Sunday, 20 October 2019 19:31 (four years ago) link

The '85 team was sort of memorable in that they took the Jays to game #161, Mattingly and Henderson (and Brett) had a great MVP duel, Billy Martin was brought back again (4th time?), and--game #162--Neikro won his 300th. Maybe just memorable from a Toronto perspective.

clemenza, Sunday, 20 October 2019 20:26 (four years ago) link

Possible cheap win by Osuna last night.

clemenza, Sunday, 20 October 2019 20:33 (four years ago) link

Steinbush bought em in '73, so'65-72 was the nadir of the CBS years. In NYC they're often called the Horace Clarke era.
