I know this is just kind of footnote in the larger craziness, but it's a great example of the way closed information systems can generate their own pseudo-reality, and the consequences when that collides with actual reality. It leads to the president of the U.S. asking the president of Ukraine to investigate something that never happened, involving entities with no actual connection to Ukraine.

This kind of stuff makes me paranoid that the actual reality will also turn out to be false, even though I know better.

Rick Perry admitted publically that the Department of Energy that he now runs actually does some useful and important work, which surprised him. But he's probably done some evil shit around fossil fuels that I didn't connect to him when it happened, because he keeps his head down.
