xp I wouldn’t feel bad about that, you are sometimes best just to let them have at it. Speaking as someone from one of the world’s most argumentative families like.

wish i could drink myself to death like a slow liquidation, evaporation, gentle and sweet and pretty instead of the reality of terror and convulsions and bodily fluids and ah fuck, the mess, the mess

Goose Witherspeen (Noodle Vague), Friday, 4 October 2019 10:18 (four years ago) link

Have you got the game NV? I was thinking of getting it this weekend

gyac, Friday, 4 October 2019 11:36 (four years ago) link

the horrible goose is the cultural highlight of 2019 imo

Yeah I got it when it came out. Tbh it's a very fits and starts thing for me - usually an hour on it is more than enough for a bit but it is funny and HONK and also pretty satisfying when you work out the more abstruse puzzles

Whisper it but the memes are more fun than the game tho but you've got to admire something that's moved me on from ducks 🦆

Goose Witherspeen (Noodle Vague), Friday, 4 October 2019 11:41 (four years ago) link

Actually the Lizzo/horrible goose crossover has been the highlight of my year

Goose Witherspeen (Noodle Vague), Friday, 4 October 2019 11:45 (four years ago) link

I need éclairs and a euromillions ticket more than vino having mulled it over for a bit but still getting dressed for outside, too hard

cadburys eclairs or fresh cream eclairs? v important distinction

Fresh cream ones. And Refreshers. And crisps. And soup or something. And lauda um. And a hookah-smoking caterpillar. And ice cream. And Persona 5 The Royal like now the waiting is agony.

Goose Witherspeen (Noodle Vague), Friday, 4 October 2019 12:27 (four years ago) link

YouGov to see it (wins), Friday, 4 October 2019 12:29 (four years ago) link

yeah i like radishes i keep eyeing them up in Tesco but i'm not exackly cooking much at the moment

Goose Witherspeen (Noodle Vague), Friday, 4 October 2019 12:30 (four years ago) link

Goose Witherspeen (Noodle Vague), Friday, 4 October 2019 12:32 (four years ago) link

grated mooli good for stir fry, one of the fastest and thus most worthy types of cooking

Did you get your euromillions & cream Eclairs yet?

gyac, Friday, 4 October 2019 15:26 (four years ago) link

Nah I just can't be bothered, I'm blue and not v hungry and there's food in the house if I need it, guess I'll have to settle for not being a euromillions ire this week.

just going to plonk myself here for a bit. i can’t really say why, but sometimes i feel like a form of madness is crawling round my brain, or i feel utterly bereft and foolish. lear is about the best portrait of this stuff there is. the childlike and raging. what do you do with these feelings? what a mess. building is so hard and impermanent when you’re a certain type. the requirement of relentless focus. and a slip in concentration sees you back at the bottom of the well again.

a desire both for sociability and to be on a distant rocky strand. or curled up on a sofa.

Fizzles, Monday, 7 October 2019 19:46 (four years ago) link

Lear is a good shout, encroaching incapacity when you're supposed to be travelling in the other direction. Of course we have to assume he was a capable ruler at some point? Whereas I feel like the impermanence you're talking about is tied into a sense of never having had meaningful competence, or always having been too close to the well.

I'm not sure I can do sociable without drink inside me tbh, so the sofa(bed) it is.

This is the second time recently you’ve done this duality of man stuff, you wrote a really interesting post earlier but you are also the guy eating Chinese off a bin. But yes this is me too, and I tend to withdraw entirely when I’m not at my best (which tbh is pretty bad now). I’ve never really worked this one out either.

Having a semi serious freak out about having washed the kitten (who’d got shite in her tail) and whether if she splashed me and got some in my cut) so afraid I am not really participating in the esoteric mood of this thread to the fullest of my ability tbh

but I like it anyway.

gyac, Monday, 7 October 2019 20:25 (four years ago) link

i’m sorry to hear that gyac. i’ve been struggling a bit for a while tbh. and i shouldn’t disregard the fact that i’ve got some amazing people around me (including on here). so i feel lucky. they love and care for me and i feel like i’m letting them down terribly.

i thought i’d got on top of things in the past week, but i had a massive, almost deranged mental spiral today. hence lear. it does feel like a battle. it does feel dual. but i’m wary of extrapolating my own psychological make-up and specific context to others.

but huge love and support to anyone who feels in that place here. my heart goes out to you all.

i don’t often do this stuff here because my circumstances are largely fine and it feels wrong to come in with it. and as i say i’m extraordinarily lucky with the people around me.

and i can’t rule out what is probably the main reason for these problems which is that i’m a massive bellend.

Fizzles, Monday, 7 October 2019 20:26 (four years ago) link

tbf Fizz this thread is not much to do with fine or not fine but largely predicated on bellendery

gyac, Monday, 7 October 2019 20:32 (four years ago) link

Riddle me this: If every day feels like a blue saturday, does it warrant posting in the blue saturday thread?

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 7 October 2019 20:35 (four years ago) link

at least you ate indoors?

do you know, and i say this in the privacy of this thread, that a couple of days later i found my keys in the bag that i had with me when i ate off the bins.

in the meantime i had three pairs of keys cut and phoned round a handful of pubs in london to see whether i’d left them there.

this is a special sort of parapraxis (which i believe as well as misleading also involves losing stuff)

i lost my bank, credit and leap cards in berlin last october and got them all replaced

found them in my sunglasses case this may

this kinda shit is constantly "happening to me" ie i am feckless about possessions

too many cuckth thpoil the broth (darraghmac), Monday, 7 October 2019 20:55 (four years ago) link

same. too long to post here (but i may have told it in anecdote) about the time i accidentally took a spare pair of glass to new york so i could lose my main pair in a basement bar in greenwich village.

Fizzles, Monday, 7 October 2019 20:57 (four years ago) link

I lost my iPod classic with years worth of music on it two years ago after a particularly bad day & I still miss it, so I get you.

gyac, Monday, 7 October 2019 21:02 (four years ago) link

on the flight from berlin i left a particularly nice tablet in the seat pocket

too many cuckth thpoil the broth (darraghmac), Monday, 7 October 2019 21:06 (four years ago) link

when i rang the hotel that night to see about the cards (after arguing with aerlingus on the phone for an hour- they dont send cabin crew to look for stuff fyi) the very helpful reception guy cheerfully commentated his search of the room finishing rather fucking gleefully "nope no card oh but look- all your shirts are still in the wardrobe!" reader i couldve shit

too many cuckth thpoil the broth (darraghmac), Monday, 7 October 2019 21:08 (four years ago) link

lol i left many clothes in a hotel room once. how?!

so many kindles, so many airplane pockets. keys and wallets for everyone. come and get them.

the thing that frustrates me is the sense that my indifference to material items is linked in some way to a sense of impermanence. carelessness. about everything. attentiveness to the material world and yourself, as if you were a bicycle or a cherished heirloom, seems a way of establishing one’s place. it’s sort of the reverse of the ship of theseus. people see it as a fable questioning essence. but actually, like the broom and its handle (trigger but also beckett iirc), it’s a question of regular repair establishing continuity. care.

supposedly the seven-year climacteric is also the period of time it takes for all the molecules in your body to replace themselves.

indifference to material items is also indifference to the most important material item - your corpus or corpse.

i feel like, for myself only, that losing stuff is an example of not valuing myself enough. and if you don’t value yourself how can you expect others to.

Fizzles, Monday, 7 October 2019 21:16 (four years ago) link

I was probably just looking for something to panic about last Friday but I was convinced I'd lost my passport. It's usually in one of two spots, and I'm flying out this week and will need it. Did a bunch of tidying and moving stuff around, all while thinking about how I could get an emergency passport appointment and switch my connecting flight.

It was in the third place I'd look, where I'd moved it so I wouldn't forget where I put it.
