Anyone who finds using a bowl and spoon too much of a chore when eating their favourite soup will be delighted to learn that soup is now available as a finger food - but comes with an unhealthy twist.

Chip shop boss John Clarkson, 57, has created a pattie-type dish by deep frying farmhouse vegetable soup - and called it the 'soup-er burger.'

John, from Preston, Lancashire, was inspired to create the dish after a cheeky customer picked up on John's penchant for frying and commented: 'You'll be deep-frying soup next!'

But rather than laugh the comment off, John, who has previously deep-fried a giant Ferrero Rocher and a milkshake, picked up the gauntlet and set about working in his chip shop-cum-gastronomical laboratory to find a way of battering and deep-frying soup.

He eventually cracked the problem by cooking up his favourite vegetable soup before adding a touch of cornflour and egg and allowing the mixture to set in a circular mould.

We went to Glasgow 4 years ago for the weekend and we forgot to eat a deep fried mars bar. We were intending to. I did have haggis, which was pretty similar to faggots so I liked it (I am a midlander after all) and square sausage which was A+ would eat in every fried breakfast

the joy of parenthood is that every now and then you get to be phoned by your daughter and your ex both at once while they're in the middle of a screaming row with each other and then you get to feel like a feeb because you can't talk anybody down from the other end of a phone

thank fuck i'm not drinking today

xp I wouldn’t feel bad about that, you are sometimes best just to let them have at it. Speaking as someone from one of the world’s most argumentative families like.

wish i could drink myself to death like a slow liquidation, evaporation, gentle and sweet and pretty instead of the reality of terror and convulsions and bodily fluids and ah fuck, the mess, the mess

Have you got the game NV? I was thinking of getting it this weekend

gyac, Friday, 4 October 2019 11:36 (four years ago) link

the horrible goose is the cultural highlight of 2019 imo

Yeah I got it when it came out. Tbh it's a very fits and starts thing for me - usually an hour on it is more than enough for a bit but it is funny and HONK and also pretty satisfying when you work out the more abstruse puzzles

Whisper it but the memes are more fun than the game tho but you've got to admire something that's moved me on from ducks 🦆

Goose Witherspeen (Noodle Vague), Friday, 4 October 2019 11:41 (four years ago) link

Actually the Lizzo/horrible goose crossover has been the highlight of my year

Goose Witherspeen (Noodle Vague), Friday, 4 October 2019 11:45 (four years ago) link

I need éclairs and a euromillions ticket more than vino having mulled it over for a bit but still getting dressed for outside, too hard

cadburys eclairs or fresh cream eclairs? v important distinction

Fresh cream ones. And Refreshers. And crisps. And soup or something. And lauda um. And a hookah-smoking caterpillar. And ice cream. And Persona 5 The Royal like now the waiting is agony.

gyac, Friday, 4 October 2019 15:26 (four years ago) link

Nah I just can't be bothered, I'm blue and not v hungry and there's food in the house if I need it, guess I'll have to settle for not being a euromillions ire this week.

just going to plonk myself here for a bit. i can’t really say why, but sometimes i feel like a form of madness is crawling round my brain, or i feel utterly bereft and foolish. lear is about the best portrait of this stuff there is. the childlike and raging. what do you do with these feelings? what a mess. building is so hard and impermanent when you’re a certain type. the requirement of relentless focus. and a slip in concentration sees you back at the bottom of the well again.

a desire both for sociability and to be on a distant rocky strand. or curled up on a sofa.

Fizzles, Monday, 7 October 2019 19:46 (four years ago) link

Lear is a good shout, encroaching incapacity when you're supposed to be travelling in the other direction. Of course we have to assume he was a capable ruler at some point? Whereas I feel like the impermanence you're talking about is tied into a sense of never having had meaningful competence, or always having been too close to the well.

I'm not sure I can do sociable without drink inside me tbh, so the sofa(bed) it is.

This is the second time recently you’ve done this duality of man stuff, you wrote a really interesting post earlier but you are also the guy eating Chinese off a bin. But yes this is me too, and I tend to withdraw entirely when I’m not at my best (which tbh is pretty bad now). I’ve never really worked this one out either.

Having a semi serious freak out about having washed the kitten (who’d got shite in her tail) and whether if she splashed me and got some in my cut) so afraid I am not really participating in the esoteric mood of this thread to the fullest of my ability tbh

but I like it anyway.

gyac, Monday, 7 October 2019 20:25 (four years ago) link

i’m sorry to hear that gyac. i’ve been struggling a bit for a while tbh. and i shouldn’t disregard the fact that i’ve got some amazing people around me (including on here). so i feel lucky. they love and care for me and i feel like i’m letting them down terribly.

i thought i’d got on top of things in the past week, but i had a massive, almost deranged mental spiral today. hence lear. it does feel like a battle. it does feel dual. but i’m wary of extrapolating my own psychological make-up and specific context to others.

but huge love and support to anyone who feels in that place here. my heart goes out to you all.

i don’t often do this stuff here because my circumstances are largely fine and it feels wrong to come in with it. and as i say i’m extraordinarily lucky with the people around me.

and i can’t rule out what is probably the main reason for these problems which is that i’m a massive bellend.

Fizzles, Monday, 7 October 2019 20:26 (four years ago) link

tbf Fizz this thread is not much to do with fine or not fine but largely predicated on bellendery

Goose Witherspeen (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 October 2019 20:27 (four years ago) link
