I think the texts Rudy posted are supposed to refute some timeline in the whistleblower report

On July 18, State and Defense department officials were reportedly informed military aid to Ukraine was being canceled. https://washingtonpost.com/national-security/trump-ordered-hold-on-military-aid-days-before-calling-ukrainian-president-officials-say/2019/09/23/df93a6ca-de38-11e9-8dc8-498eabc129a0_story.html

This text is dated July 19.

And a separate note, I thought this was funny:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) offered a blunt assessment of the congressional Republicans who have dodged reporters’ questions about the whistleblower complaint by saying they didn’t read it.
“There is almost no excuse for a member of Congress to have not read the whistleblower report by now. It’s a few pages. This is literally our jobs,” she tweeted. “If you don’t have the commitment to be here and do the work, cut your fancy fundraisers & make the time, or quit.”

“The ultimate referee of this fight will be Lachlan Murdoch. In recent months, Rupert’s oldest son has been holding strategy conversations with Fox executives and anchors about how Fox News should prepare for life after Trump. Among the powerful voices advising Lachlan that Fox should decisively break with the president is former House speaker Paul Ryan, who joined the Fox board in March. “Paul is embarrassed about Trump and now he has the power to do something about it,” an executive who’s spoken with Ryan told me. (Ryan did not return a call seeking comment.) “

also though re: Turner, he "leveled a sharp critique at the president, based on the transcript of his call with the Ukrainian leader that was released on Wednesday: “Concerning that conversation, I want to say to the president: "This is not O.K. That conversation is not O.K.""

of course it’s not “O.K.,” it was a perfect call, a 10

They all want to hurry home and test the water, by whatever their favored method of water-testing may be. Donuts and coffee with old men in trucker hats at 7 am at a McDonalds. Calling up Aunt Agatha. Seeking out a few other local politicians to have a series of conversations on their sense of the situation. Holding a town hall and asking audience members to raise their hands. Whatever. Them waters back home must be tested asap.

I would take the Fox News story with a grain of salt as it’s Vanity Fair and written in the same breathless style as all their “Madness in the White House, Everything is Collapsing” stories of the last 3 years.

I just resent Vanity Fair’s style more than other sorta-left media. It tells me what I want to hear; the villains are all miserable and losing their minds and it’s all about to come crashing down and reasonable people will take over. It’s such an enticing narrative and it’s such bullshit, like I’m sure there’s plenty of gossip and jockeying for power, but everyone there is making tons of money in positions they have no business being anywhere near and they’ll face no consequences for the brutality of this administration. But a few anonymous sources talking about chaos makes it all seem exciting to watch and gets plenty of reaction gif engagement.

JoeStork, Friday, 27 September 2019 04:15 (four years ago) link

sorry about that, what I mean is that I love to see it.

meanwhile: https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/9/26/20886038/trump-refugee-cap-executive-order

The United States will accept fewer refugees over the coming year than ever: 18,000 at most, down from a cap of 110,000 just two years ago. And a new executive order from President Donald Trump will allow state and local authorities to block refugees from settling in their areas.

The administration announced Thursday that it will lower the annual cap on refugees to 18,000, from 30,000 this year, in the coming fiscal year, which starts October 1. And local governments that do not have the resources to support refugees in becoming “self-sufficient and free from long-term dependence on public assistance” will be able to turn them away.

The National Rifle Association acted as a "foreign asset" for Russia in the period leading up to the 2016 election, according to a new investigation unveiled Friday by Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Oregon.

Drawing on contemporaneous emails and private interviews, an 18-month probe by the Senate Finance Committee's Democratic staff found that the NRA underwrote political access for Russian nationals Maria Butina and Alexander Torshin more than previously known — even though the two had declared their ties to the Kremlin.
