Oh weird, that’s kind of revolution. Kind of want to take bets on how tall KD actually is.

haha I use ilx’s text box when I’m copying and pasting for power points because it always formats everything to the same font size and type

Breaking at ESPN: The G League this season will use the "one free throw counts for all the points" rule on shooting fouls -- on 2s and 3s: https://t.co/6mn9VQtzYg

oh nice

call all destroyer, Thursday, 26 September 2019 18:38 (four years ago) link

Are they considering that for the NBA?

DJI, Thursday, 26 September 2019 18:40 (four years ago) link

i like it to speed up the game but hate it otherwise. they do it in the big3

big city slam (Spottie), Thursday, 26 September 2019 18:48 (four years ago) link

i feel like less free throw downtime would decrease the average number of minutes a starter could play in a game? maybe its not a big enough effect to matter though

ciderpress, Thursday, 26 September 2019 19:28 (four years ago) link

Idk how I feel. Why should someone have to make 2 15 ft shots when hacked going for a layup/dunk? "good foul" is a part of the game...but it really shouldn't be. But then I do think all pro ballers should be at minimum very good shooters and I like the advantage excellent FT shooters bring to their team. The ol "two to make one" rule intrigues me more because if you miss the 1st attempt you're SOL otherwise.

deadball rebound, perfunctory daps is the most tedious play in the game

lag∞n, Thursday, 26 September 2019 19:37 (four years ago) link

This change would be nearly as fundamental to the game as before and after the shot clock was introduced. Many traditional coaching strategies would be eliminated at a stroke. It would also eliminate a whole skill set from players' repertoires and allow more minutes for players with limited skills. These changes would push the game in a direction of being faster, but simpler.

I kind of like me some complexity. Even croquet benefits from its elements of strategy and complexity.

whatre u even talking about

lag∞n, Thursday, 26 September 2019 19:41 (four years ago) link

"one free throw counts for all the points" rule on shooting fouls

A is for (Aimless), Thursday, 26 September 2019 19:49 (four years ago) link

ok well how does that do the things described in yr post

lag∞n, Thursday, 26 September 2019 19:53 (four years ago) link

i don't think the change reduces the value of excellent free throw shooters. you no longer get the hope that the 65% guy is at least going to make one of two.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 26 September 2019 19:53 (four years ago) link

thinking good fts wld become slightly more valuable, never seen the numbers but i bet theres more variance between good and bad shooters on the first ft, but i dont think itd really do much except eliminate the worst part of the game

lag∞n, Thursday, 26 September 2019 19:56 (four years ago) link

lil less rest for big minute players......

lag∞n, Thursday, 26 September 2019 19:57 (four years ago) link

I wish they'd eliminate 2/3rds of the timeouts.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 26 September 2019 19:58 (four years ago) link

otm, i mean commercials are really the worst part of the game if u want to include them

lag∞n, Thursday, 26 September 2019 19:59 (four years ago) link

I wish they'd eliminate 2/3rds of the timeouts.

― EZ Snappin, Thursday, September 26, 2019 12:58 PM (five minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

they kinda did?

The maximum number of timeouts per game has been reduced from 18 to 14 and teams can now call just two timeouts – instead of three – in the final three minutes of regulation. Also, teams now have just two timeouts to use per overtime session instead of three.

big city slam (Spottie), Thursday, 26 September 2019 20:05 (four years ago) link

i thought the last 2 mins got noticeably better last year with no more than two timeouts per team

call all destroyer, Thursday, 26 September 2019 20:06 (four years ago) link

yeah

lag∞n, Thursday, 26 September 2019 20:10 (four years ago) link

yeah it was a great move and made for some crazier endings

big city slam (Spottie), Thursday, 26 September 2019 20:11 (four years ago) link

v much looking forward to this 1 ft experiment

Clay, Thursday, 26 September 2019 20:21 (four years ago) link

4 out of 18 is not 2/3rds.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 26 September 2019 20:26 (four years ago) link

no, it's 4/18ths

yeah agree. I left out the part of my thinking where I totally get rid of FTs on hacks committed on a guy in the paint.

i guess shooting 1 for 2 disadvantages the shooters team slightly as they can no longer get 1pt plus an oreb/putback

micah, Friday, 27 September 2019 05:00 (four years ago) link

It feels like something will go wrong for the lakers because it always does

Tried to de-Apple-ify the link but could figure out how. CA to start letting NCAA players take endorsement money.

Now I'm at a real computer, so here you go:

Whoa. The rest of the country is gonna have to follow suit or all the top HS recruits are gonna go to Cali, no?

Clay, Monday, 30 September 2019 21:54 (four years ago) link
