fwiw, much respect to the mets this year
they did some good things; they did some things that didn't work out. but they fuckin tried! extending degrom, letting alonso start on opening day, not trading syndergaard -- these are all good things! the deal with seattle doesn't look too great at the moment, but it was an effort to improve rather than purely dump salary. getting stroman was bold! they maybe *should* have traded wheeler at the deadline but it's awesome that they didn't.
41-25 in the second half is promising! mickey doesn't seem like a great manager, but the season has turned out a lot better than i thought it would three months ago

Well... Stroman had an answer to Cashman’s comments that he wouldn’t have been a “difference-maker”... I would have retweeted him but I have the honor of being one of the many baseball writers he has blocked online... pic.twitter.com/iQvDTXoVl6— Marly Rivera (@MarlyRiveraESPN) September 24, 2019

If only they'd put Diaz on the IL with bubonic plague on August 1.
Kranepool IS in the Mets HOF, Gill, how could he not be? Had most of the career offensive leads until Wright came along.

Oh I meant they should consider retiring Kranepool’s number next, and then retire Wright’s after that.

I agree with a lot of what Mookie says upthread. Great turn around in the second half, wish they could have gotten it together faster. JD Davis has been a great find, and his frazzled post-game walk off speech was one of the highlights of the year for me. So many concerns about pitching going forward (aside from Degrom/Lugo/Wilson) but I am looking forward to seeing the young core of hitters develop for the next 3 or so years.
― Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 02:11 (four years ago) link
Right now the Mets are the dictionary definition of mediocre. They seem intent on losing all their remaining games, which would appropriately leave them at .500.
You can't "get it together" when you have the worst bullpen in the franchise's last 50 years.

Name to watch if #Mets fire Callaway: Carlos Beltrán. Bi-lingual. Strong communicator. Played for #Mets from 2005 to ‘11. Interviewed for #Yankees’ job that went to Boone. One Mets exec, Allard Baird, was his GM with #Royals. Another, Omar Minaya, signed him when he was NYM GM.— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) October 3, 2019

Hearing Carlos Beltran is very serious candidate for Mets manager. Has close relationship w/key FO guys Allard Baird and Omar Minaya, both said to support. @Ken_Rosenthal 1st linked CB to job. Interestingly, 3/4 known candidates have no MLB managing experience; also Bell, Shelton— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) October 11, 2019

The only Mets star who went on to manage them was Bud Harrelson, and that didn't work out too well, but I don't see this being a similar situation.
