I find the lack of hyperbole in this thread curious.

Somehow I missed this.
I was an indie snob and looked down my nose at Aerosmith. Then I heard this record and it was pretty much the only thing I played for a straight year.

Thread inspired me to pull this back out. I still narrowly prefer TitA but this one is a close second. Can't fathom how anyone could have voted for "Get The Lead Out," though, which to me is the very definition of a filler track, and is one of only two songs on this album I don't love ("Home Tonight" is the other). Missed the poll but I'd be pretty torn between "Last Child," "Lick & A Promise," and "Sick as a Dog" (which pretty much invents Royal Trux, no?)

I think Back In the Saddle is better than anything else, but two things here: 1) It's really an accomplishment in itself that the album can hold it after such an opener; and 2) I think Back in the Saddle must be better than practically anything else not just in this album but in any album, not just of this band but of any band.

Your opinion may change over time...Last Child certainly catchy on first listen.

not one skip on first listen so you're probably right

"Sick as a Dog" (which pretty much invents Royal Trux, no?)They do have a song called “Sickazz Dog”; not sure if the title is a tribute…Despite the RTX & R.E.M. references, to me this song just sounds like… Aerosmith, lol
― Wet Legume (morrisp), Sunday, 11 December 2022 18:32 (one year ago) link
Sick as a dog is not that great of a tune but it’s the kind of thing they tried really hard to create again around Permanent vacation

Having now listened to the album a few times through, I'd say "Get the Lead Out" is my favorite... kinda interesting song. (I do hear some RTX in that and "Combination," fwiw)
Overall, the band's playing isn't as tight as I was expecting; but it's also not appealingly "loose" to my ears (it doesn't really swing)... it kind of occupies a "stiff" middle ground? Idk
