I did the third boss! Right index finger was tired from holding R2 down.

Anyone played Blasphemous yet? Looks like it might scratch that Hollow Knight itch until the sequel comes out
― Captain ACAB (Neil S), Wednesday, 11 September 2019 13:43 (four years ago) link
I almost pulled the trigger for it on the Switch yesterday, but I have a pretty big backlog and (speak of the devil) I find Hollow Knight (for only $15!) just sets the bar so high. Like, I'm going to buy Blasphemous eventually, but it's a head-scratcher whenever I read reviews that call it "gorgeous" or whatever, because by the standard of Hollow Knight all the pixel stuff is just so (imo) underwhelming. But yeah, reviews are generally very positive.
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 13:53 (four years ago) link
I'm a sucker for Souls-like mystique (which Hollow Knight delivered as well) so that's a good selling point also.

The artwork / design does look pretty awesome and very different from the usual 'vania-clone

also O and X were chosen to indicate yes and no for menus etc but then American devs flipped them for whatever reason

easy way to remember:
X marks the spot that you want to press to go forward, O means nOOOO!

Is anyone here playing Control? Keep seeing a lot of comments about it and I'm wondering if I should investigate
― mh, Monday, 23 September 2019 19:22 (four years ago) link
Mentioned here: whatchu playing now
A lot of frame drop issues for PS4 (both base and Pro) but the recent patch seems to have fixed the worst of it, from what I've read.
― Doctor Hu (Leee), Monday, 23 September 2019 19:25 (four years ago) link
Yeah, I was looking forward to it, then heard about the performance issues on even the Pro, then heard the patch fixed them, but was going to wait for a Black Friday sale or something. (Also waiting on a bigger discount for A Plague Tale, as far as newer games I've heard good things about go.)

People say Borderlands 3 is "more borderlands" but it's definitely worse than 2 in many respects.
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Monday, 30 September 2019 19:35 (four years ago) link
In what way? I love B2 but have a game backlog and haven't picked up B3 (also because Randy Pitchford sucks)
― EZ Snappin, Monday, 30 September 2019 19:38 (four years ago) link
Extremely clunky, laggy, etc. The writing is worse than ever. It's trying to be a Destiny clone and not doing a good job of it. Etc.
Still fun when you're blowing fools away but the rest of it is in poor shape.
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Monday, 30 September 2019 21:35 (four years ago) link

To that end, there are two key innovations with the PlayStation 5’s new controller. First, we’re adopting haptic feedback to replace the “rumble” technology found in controllers since the 5th generation of consoles. With haptics, you truly feel a broader range of feedback, so crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field. You can even get a sense for a variety of textures when running through fields of grass or plodding through mud.The second innovation is something we call adaptive triggers, which have been incorporated into the trigger buttons (L2/R2). Developers can program the resistance of the triggers so that you feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain. In combination with the haptics, this can produce a powerful experience that better simulates various actions.

Personally I love it when the selling point of a new product is something I'm not interested in. Imposes a nice consumption break, like when the New Yorker fiction issue arrives and for a couple of blissful weeks I don't feel any pressure to read the magazine.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 13:41 (four years ago) link
hope that controller has decent battery life, cos the DS4's is garbage

Now, see, this is why I'm glad I bought a Playstation. I keep a relatively short list of must-have games, titles that caught my eye or system showcases, and whenever they go on sale I can just snatch them up for next to nothing. Mad Max game? Currently $5! The first two Batman games? $8! Are they great? Are they terrible? Who knows! But I've heard enough good things about them to justify $13 all-in.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 21:38 (four years ago) link
they are definitely worth 13 dollar; you will be happy.

While a number of studios already had their PS5 devkits, the controller prototypes began rolling out much more recently, and no one is ready to name specific titles they're developing for the PS5. "We're working on a big one right now," says Marco Thrush, president of Bluepoint Games, which most recently worked on last year's PS4 remake of Shadow of the Colossus. "I'll let you figure out the rest."

I've decided I want to get a Playstation rather than a Switch, if only cos it means I can turn my TV into a Smart TV and stream movies too.
Went into the shop ready to pay on finance but the woman in there completely put me off. She said I should wait and buy a PS5 or if not get one on Black Friday.
So I shrugged and left the shop.
I'm way confused now. i waited til the new Switch was out and now I'm wondering if the games shop want my money or not
― frame casual (dog latin), Tuesday, 15 October 2019 19:41 (four years ago) link
you can probably get like a 40% lower price around black friday, that part is true
PS5 is still a year off and will be significantly pricier than the PS4 at launch and it'll probably be 2022 before the PS4 gets fully phased out for new games, so that one's your call
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 15 October 2019 19:50 (four years ago) link
There's no real point getting a PS5 until a year after release (at least) but waiting 5 weeks to Black Friday is probably a good idea as there'll be lots of good bundle deals around
― groovypanda, Tuesday, 15 October 2019 19:51 (four years ago) link
Unless you're not gonna play it at all in the next two years, this is the best time (end of generation) to buy a console.
That said I might just give in and get PS5 at launch. I pussyfooted on the Switch and eventually got it, but there was no point in waiting in retrospect. PS5 will probably get better deals the holiday season after year one though, especially if X-whatever launches as well.
