Underrated album: Rolling Stones' "Dirty Work"

idk why I decided to listen to this album today but Mick is crazy on it

I think this album would've been better received if "One Hit" was the first single... "Harlem Shuffle" isn't so good

Probably should have put this in a Jagger solo thread, but I heard "Lucky In Love" out and about this weekend, and how ridic is the poker dialogue over the coda? Easily one of the most embarrassing Mick Moments.

a lot of this sounds like they're trying to be punk & makes me wish they'd tried harder. it's not great or terrible, having not heard anything else after exile i can't say xgau isn't right. the reggae song is awful even by rockers-doing-reggae standards though

Keith's "Sleep Tonight" is pretty good. In the post-Tattoo You era, he developed a knack for making beautifully wrecked ballads.

This record finally made sense for me during the pandemic. It's harsh and angry becaue that was how they felt at the time. Now I love it.

I love how ferocious Jagger sounds here. No coasting.

"The Worst" is a good one too

I bought into the Xgau hype and always liked this album but haven’t listened in ages. Right now even “Harlem Shuffle” sounds good.

I still don’t see the appeal in things like “Hold Back” - it’s aggressive, it has energy, but it all feels directionless and instantly forgettable.

keith songs still not doing it for me but there are actually some bangers on here. i would like this band more in general if jagger did more barking and less drawling
