I'd say come to Pittsburgh to discuss over a beer but the tone of your review makes me think you'd find such a place pretty icky and unsophisticated. Maybe I'll look you up next time I'm in Brooklyn looking for kale cupcakes.

As someone who is unlikely to ever listen to that Tool album, the p4k review is solid lols

I was amazed when I saw Phair last year and she played as many songs off S/T as Guyville and "Why Can't I" got the biggest reaction of the night.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Saturday, 7 September 2019 21:53 (four years ago) link

I was ok through most of that diss, mostly because I still haven’t read the review. But I felt some shame when I read the words “kale cupcakes” and it sounded appetizing

idk, I just read the tool review and found it really unremarkable. whatever cringy “humor” style the writer is going for, uhh they should not do that.

The requirements are low when making fun of Terrence McKenna-DMT dweebs IMO. Tool are the Joe Rogan of rock.

The kd lang review is amazing. I seldom read a music review and think “wow I wish I could write as good as that@ but kudos to Laura Snapes, I wish I could write as good as her

Yeah, it's a great review of an album I bought when it was new, based on a rapturous review I read somewhere - Rolling Stone, maybe - and never made it through the first song.

hard to say that the 6ix9ine thing isn't a major story

Can't say I was expecting today's retrospective review.

pomenitul, Sunday, 22 September 2019 11:58 (four years ago) link

I think we're still allowed to like Darkthrone because Fenriz had no involvement in the killings and stuff. Also:

Fenriz eventually apologized and disowned his behavior both in his words and his actions throughout the 2000s...In the liner notes of a career retrospective box set Black Death and Beyond, he acknowledged his regret over the language he used in the ’90s. 'There is no excuse,' he wrote."

so, cult of personality (everyone loves Fenriz, bm's most lovable and charismatic goofball) + repentance for problematic opinions = retrospective review. You certainly won't be seeing any retrospective Burzum reviews on Pfork anytime soon, despite the fact that Burzum's early records are better and more historically significant than this particular Darkthrone album

Paul Ponzi, Sunday, 22 September 2019 12:29 (four years ago) link

I don't know, I could see a Burzum review. Though probably not with the link that says 'click here to buy, pitchfork might earn a commission'.

Frederik B, Sunday, 22 September 2019 17:13 (four years ago) link

the darkthrone trilogy is as historically significant as burzum come on

Given how people's perceptions of Kanye get better in periods when he keeps out of the spotlight (i.e. keeps his mouth shut), I'm guessing MBDTF could still take this

flappy bird, Monday, 23 September 2019 18:53 (four years ago) link

I doubt that.

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Monday, 23 September 2019 18:55 (four years ago) link

Seems like Lemonade's stock is falling, at least as an album. Read a couple recent things about people saying that it really doesn't hold up well outside of its timeframe and without the visual element, I don't think that will place nearly as highly as it may once have.
