Breath of Fire 1 & 2. I like the first Breath of Fire better than any of the Final Fantasies, I think.
I've half-heartedly tried to get into Super Metroid before, but the beginning seems boring and then stupid hard. Somebody school me as to why I should persevere?

intrigued by this Breath of Fire hype from the snes ahoy thread

breath of fire 1 and 2 are a little on the bland side iirc but i also don't really like FF4 which is the FF they'd be closest to.

ciderpress, Wednesday, 4 September 2019 23:09 (four years ago) link

i do like breath of fire's gimmick where every party member is some sort of animal or monster person and not a human

ciderpress, Wednesday, 4 September 2019 23:11 (four years ago) link

Terranigma or gtfo imo

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 4 September 2019 23:11 (four years ago) link

thats an action rpg, not a fair comparison imo

ciderpress, Wednesday, 4 September 2019 23:13 (four years ago) link

though i do like terranigma more than the mana games

ciderpress, Wednesday, 4 September 2019 23:14 (four years ago) link

snes launching tomorrow with that many games is nice

I get more into Luigi’s Mansion 3 with each showing, looks like a fun romp

president of deluded fruitcakes anonymous (silby), Thursday, 5 September 2019 02:13 (four years ago) link

i was already on board when they showed it has Environments and isn't mono-mansion like 1

ciderpress, Thursday, 5 September 2019 02:32 (four years ago) link

i like the artstyle a lot too

ciderpress, Thursday, 5 September 2019 02:33 (four years ago) link

I loved Luigi's Mansion on GameCube.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 5 September 2019 13:10 (four years ago) link

The data for Luigi's Mansion contains a second model for Luigi, called "luige" with an "E". The model is polygonally identical, and only displays slightly differently due to lack of associated shaders. The purpose of the model is unknown. pic.twitter.com/uHV63aAuEU

It's true! Onion Games is bringing the cult-classic "anti-RPG" MOON to the Nintendo Switch...

... in English for the very first time!

The game will be out in Japan on October 10th, and available in English worldwide... not too long afterward!

to play snes games on switch online, do you have to download a new app?

and if so, is that app out already where you are? doesn't seem to be here yet

The SNES games feature online play, right? does this mean we’ll be able to play Mario kart together? Or will they fuck it up like they usually fuck it up? I’m cautiously optimistic because they seem like they’re doing a much better job with the rest of the snes rollout (including rewind)

I am also Harl (Karl Malone), Thursday, 5 September 2019 23:45 (four years ago) link

it has online play, i have not attempted to use it yet

Bought Collection of Mana. Think I'm finally gonna play SD3 after so many decades.

Nhex, Friday, 6 September 2019 04:44 (four years ago) link

Played the first few hours of Astral Chain and it's good, the controls are taking a bit of getting used to but then I'm like that with all "big" games these days, so many button combos to remember. I'm playing on casual as I'm not that interested in getting my incompetence graded lol.

The SNES app is out and includes an option to turn off the button prompts from the bottom of the screen, checked the NES app and yep that has been similarly updated. Going to play Breath Of Fire first as that's one RPG series I've never played before.

really enjoying my first ever play through of SMW2: yoshi's island. switch is perfect platform for it

самокритика me, daddy (||||||||), Friday, 6 September 2019 12:27 (four years ago) link

bummer

Since launching in September 2018, Nintendo Switch Online has added several new NES games each month. As of this month, that's ending.

"More NES games will be added in the future, but those releases will not adhere to a regular schedule," a Nintendo representative told Business Insider in an email this week.

Unfortunately, the same thing applies to Super Nintendo games. "More Super NES games will be added after launch, but those releases will not adhere to a regular schedule," the representative said.

oh well. as long as the ones they do release are good picks, i'll be happy. i'm playing breath of fire now, and looking forward to beating SMW2 for the first time

I am also Harl (Karl Malone), Saturday, 7 September 2019 18:18 (four years ago) link

they just gave us 20 games this month so not surprising

there's still the DKCs and earthbound and smrpg for snes stuff they can add, dunno what else. most of the big e.g. squaresoft or capcom games have a ported version on the market already so they aren't gonna get the rights to give those out for 'free'

smw2 is my favorite mario game by far

diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Saturday, 7 September 2019 19:58 (four years ago) link

i borrowed it from a friend way back in the day and got really far, but never to the end! really looking forward to that journey.

same deal with super metroid (a rental, never beat). i just started that today as well. i'm not sure if it's a repeatable bug or just something weird that happened to me, but be careful about changing the default control layout. for some reason, after i got the morphing ball it only let me turn into morphball a handful of times, then completely stopped working. i was unable to get out of a nearby room as a result so i had to start over (losing about...8 minutes of progress)

I am also Harl (Karl Malone), Saturday, 7 September 2019 21:14 (four years ago) link

SMW2 is great gameplay-wise but it's very... garish

I am a bit too excited about being able to finish Link to the Past finally - what a game that is

Unrelatedly, how are the people who bought Mario Maker 2 finding it a few months down the line? I'm still keen to buy
