I just saw John Cusack in a thing this afternoon where he looks like they wanted Michael Madsen. He's the villain in the Connemara made Western Never Grow Old. I thought he was a lot thinner but he looks pretty massive in this.
I assume the cusack in the title of the thread meant him.
I don't remember seeing him in a film for a while. Looked him up when I got home and saw some scandal about retweeting antisemitic images or something. Has he been relegated to foreign films now or something?
― Stevolende, Monday, 2 September 2019 19:09 (four years ago) link
he was in Spike Lee's Chiraq a couple years ago

I may need someone to outline this thread title for me. Or maybe it's the inclusion of Cusack that is throwing me off.

Y = Yes Harkens back to a time when Cusack wasnt a complete nonstarter
― Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 2 September 2019 20:20 (four years ago) link
I have a lot more problem with Rudd than Cusack in the title, but such was the way of Ally.
― Andrew Farrell, Monday, 2 September 2019 20:22 (four years ago) link
ally has some shit to explain. This and the jimmy fallon love.
Cusack has never been pretty. His deal was always non-descript everyman.

Cusack has a worse career than Travolta at present

This thread was started in 2007. I can only imagine ally was a huge Must Love Dogs fan.

JOHN CUSACK Y
PAUL RUDD: ALSO Y
KEANU REEVES: HE'S PRETTY MUCH Y TOO BUT IN A DIFFERENT WAY THAN RUDD OR CUSACK

the only things I hear about Cusack are when he accidentally retweets the wrong thing because he can’t quite tell anti-establishment memes from bigoted ones, and occasional instances of women complaining about his tendency to slide into their messageskeanu very wise to keep a low profile

sry 5 daily mail content but i love keanu and i want him 2 be happy
He has not had a serious girlfriend in decades it seems, and has never been affectionate with a woman while on the red carpet during his 35 year career. But that changed this weekend when Keanu Reeves held hands with business collaborator Alexandra Grant at the LACMA Art + Film Gala Presented By Gucci in Los Angeles. The actor, 55, and the artist, 46, never let go of each other as they exchanged loving glances while posing for dozens of photos in front of the international press, proving they had nothing to hide

They look happy!

Everybody congratulating Keanu Reeves for having an "age appropriate" girlfriend. Em, she's 9 YEARS YOUNGER than him. That's like a 5 year old man having a girlfriend that won't be born for another 4 YEARS.— twitch.tv/Limmy (@DaftLimmy) November 5, 2019

What more recent Keanu numbers would break into this list now?
Surely we agree that the poll overrates Keanu in Bogus Journey at the expense of Keanu in Point Break and River's Edge (honestly I also love him essentially playing Ted again in Parenthood but I recognize that's an idiosyncracy)
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 5 November 2019 20:31 (four years ago) link
John Wick movies are set 30 seconds apart and made 3 years apart, he needs to hide the terrible ravages of time upon his visage until the entire series is complete
― now let's play big lunch take little lunch (sic), Tuesday, 5 November 2019 20:32 (four years ago) link
I tried to watch John Wick 3 but nah, it's kind of depressing seeing Keanu play the blank-faced super-martial-artist that could be played by anyone. I made it through 45 mins or so. He is no more interesting in it than the guy who plays Bourne is in The Bourne Agglomerate.
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 5 November 2019 20:34 (four years ago) link
Reeves is too funny to waste in movies that aren't funny (and I include River's Edge and Point Break as movies which are, in their dark way, funny)
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 5 November 2019 20:35 (four years ago) link
River's Edge is totally funny

the Wicks and Always Be My Maybe are great screen performances, would probably outrank Rush Rush but not Excellent Adventure

otm
(honestly I also love him essentially playing Ted again in Parenthood but I recognize that's an idiosyncracy)
otm except that how dare u he's not playing Ted, he's playing a nuanced and entirely differentiated teen goofus

I Love You To Death Keanu is the average between Parenthood Keanu and Wick Keanu
1) obviously it takes a dedicated super-martial-artist / performer to spend the best part of a year learning and enacting that choreography so no it could not be played by anyone
2) the specifics of his blankness are, for real, extremely nuanced throughout the film. the first was him putting on a mask, a hated piece of armour that his entire identity was built on having shed, and alternating between that and exhausting grief - not just the breaking down scenes, but the tearing hollow emptiness that you feel having to go about any daily activities when someone has been torn out of existence. the second was him accepting that he had an obligation to fulfill, and he keeps that visible above (and as a cover for) his conflicting resentment/regret over being drawn back into the rules of the Continental / High Table, and the satisfaction he takes from being so good at what he trained for. the third sees him play tones of "blankness" ranging from shutting out all internal distractions from immediate survival, to sorrow over past hurt he committed on others, to 100% in-the-moment focus on tasks & fights, to desperation over how far out of control events have spun / stubbornness that he absolutely will not change course for anything, to various glimmers of how badly he has shut himself off emotionally & from basic human connection, especially when McShane sets up outs for him, or when Dacascos breaks kayfabe.

I "auditioned" to be one of dozens of fake Keanus in Matrix 2 tbh, but spread my legs to fit inside the outline of a person they had drawn on the wall and got dismissed for now not reaching the 6'1" line they had painted
in order to get back to making more The Lake Houses and Henry's Crimes and Generation Um...s and Exposeds and Destination Weddingses?

OK sic has convinced me that I should try watching John Wick 1 at some point; I can only say that coming in cold to -- well, looking at the Wikipedia plot summary, I see it was John Wick 2 I watched 45 minutes of, not 3 -- none of the depth you're talking about was visible.

tbh its v hard to pick out what scenes are in which, of the ways you could divide the eight-odd hours up, "by movie" isnt necessarily the way to do so
