i remain firm in my belief that this song is incredibly good

american bradass (BradNelson), Sunday, 25 August 2019 18:30 (four years ago) link

i continue to not get this band but i am fully in favour of popular music sounding uglier

devvvine, Sunday, 25 August 2019 18:49 (four years ago) link

I like the song, but only by the standard that it makes me feel things again so ymmv

Next single to be simultaneous Tool and Taylor Swift tribute, goes number one in ten countries.

two weeks pass...

just saw them live

best band in the world!!!

ufo, Sunday, 22 September 2019 12:13 (four years ago) link

a bunch of thoughts:

-still not entirely sold on "people" but it worked ok live
-saw at least three rainbow flags people brought specifically to wave during "if i believe you" presumably for the lesbian kiss line, which, lol (i mean that in a good way)
-"if i believe you" incidentally was a real highlight, they jammed on the outro for a while
-they played an unreleased instrumental called "depth" which was very much in the vein of the iliyws title track except much shorter
-"i always wanna die" needs to be their main set closer forever
-there were technical problems for a few minutes before "sincerity is scary" but matty refused to banter with the crowd "on principle" because it wasn't the place in the set for him to do that
-matty was a much better live vocalist than i remember him being when i saw them just before iliwys came out, some quite impressive moments like on "i couldn't be more in love"
-kinda wish there were a few more deep cuts/a different EP cut to "you" which they played last time they were here (i know "undo" has been on setlists occasionally over the last few years, would have liked to see that) but the ones we got were fantastic anyway
-matty struggled to remember which EP "you" was from lol
-i have never seen a more enthusiastic crowd in my life
-no rome was a very good opener, it's funny how he's working in a very similar space to the 1975 but much more both alt-r&b and emo, though not usually both at once
-best band in the world!!!!

ufo, Sunday, 22 September 2019 12:50 (four years ago) link

oh how'd i forget matty's floral skirt (no "paris" to go with it though)

ufo, Monday, 23 September 2019 00:51 (four years ago) link

Crowds for them are incredible, best I've ever seen, or very near the top.

I saw them once for this tour and once for the ILWYS. He seems so much more at ease in this tour.

That "Sex" finale, I hadn't seen any youtube recording of any sort previously, it blew my mind and left me so pumped. When it ended, the only thing I wanted to do was to go to another show of the 1975.

I suppose that makes today three days #countdown

cpl593H, Monday, 21 October 2019 17:56 (four years ago) link

that's correct. they're premiering "frail state of mind"

american bradass (BradNelson), Monday, 21 October 2019 17:57 (four years ago) link

accurate description of me whenever this band makes me wait for something

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Monday, 21 October 2019 17:59 (four years ago) link

Whenever I put "People" on I feel this compulsion to enable the repeat single track setting and it's really destroying my last.fm stats.

cpl593H, Monday, 21 October 2019 18:01 (four years ago) link

"frail state of mind" is supposed to be their attempt at 2-step according to a recent interview, looking forward to this

ufo, Monday, 21 October 2019 20:55 (four years ago) link

jesus lol

k3vin k., Monday, 21 October 2019 21:30 (four years ago) link

well that's perfect

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 24 October 2019 16:10 (four years ago) link

This feels like an updated version of I like it when you sleep etc's title track and with vocals so yes, perfect

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Thursday, 24 October 2019 16:22 (four years ago) link

OMG. thank you.

Nourry, Thursday, 24 October 2019 16:26 (four years ago) link

NOACF is on apple music now as a 22 track album

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 October 2019 16:48 (four years ago) link

in the description matty calls the album "dreamy, hazy, and quite broken and deconstructed"

God

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 24 October 2019 16:57 (four years ago) link

Simon H., Thursday, 24 October 2019 17:02 (four years ago) link

the last 45 seconds of this are amazing

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 October 2019 17:13 (four years ago) link

why are none of you noting that this sounds just like TOOTIME with its chorus edited out? you hear that, right?

alpine static, Thursday, 24 October 2019 18:23 (four years ago) link

it does, it just doesn't matter

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 24 October 2019 18:36 (four years ago) link

fair enough!

alpine static, Thursday, 24 October 2019 18:45 (four years ago) link

100% agree

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 24 October 2019 20:02 (four years ago) link

that it's just TooTime with no chorus.

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 24 October 2019 20:02 (four years ago) link

this is so gorgeous so i can forgive that there's not a whole lot to the actual song. i hope they eventually do something in the vein of this/"i like it when you sleep..."/"how to draw petrichor" that's an incredible pop song on top of the sound design

the album press release that's up on apple music now also says the sound of it comes full circle back to the EPs

ufo, Thursday, 24 October 2019 20:39 (four years ago) link

this is fucking incredible

k3vin k., Thursday, 24 October 2019 22:22 (four years ago) link

that it's just TooTime with no chorus.

― Spencer Chow, Thursday, October 24, 2019 4:02 PM (two hours ago)

you say this like it's a bad thing...

anyway I'll take 22 tracks of "tootime" vocals over "how to draw/petrichor", thank you very much

k3vin k., Thursday, 24 October 2019 22:23 (four years ago) link

Can't wait to listen to this on headphones

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Thursday, 24 October 2019 22:49 (four years ago) link

Love it

de-mamba mentality (Spottie), Thursday, 24 October 2019 23:14 (four years ago) link

k3vin k., Friday, 25 October 2019 00:13 (four years ago) link

haha

Tim F, Friday, 25 October 2019 00:15 (four years ago) link

A bit more chill than TooTime but I hear the similarity. Love what's going on in the instrumental parts, good track

Vinnie, Friday, 25 October 2019 00:22 (four years ago) link

in other news

i've been playing the shit out of the MJ cole remix of no rome's "pink"... the song works great as a proper garage song

good interview with lots of details about the new record

lol at "It’s More That I’m Bored Than I Actually Want To Kill Myself (Or Something)" being a real song title though, they already did "I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)"
