I have trouble finding the right balance of coffee and sugar(I tend to make it too sweet). Out of convenience, I buy Starbucks' ground coffee. I know there are a lot of specialty coffee brands available online, but I have no idea what's good and what's pedestrian-to-terrible.

so the reason they talked about it on this gross show was because the guest had a colleague who had developed a cockroach allergy (apparently all people will with enough exposure) and could no longer drink coffee unless it was from freshly ground beans (not preground) and so he made dude drive all over the place to find fresh ground coffee when they were out on trips doing research or whatever. maybe it was just a cruel joke from boss to employee?
you cut this guy loose, is what you do.

i can't stand coffee w/ sugar for some reason
― harbl, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:36 (fourteen years ago) link
Do you mean you like coffee black, or with a sugar-substitute (like Splenda)?
― Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:43 (fourteen years ago) link
coffee w/sugar is for children

I can't stand coffee with sugar either. And I don't mean because I have a sugar-substitute instead.
― Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:47 (fourteen years ago) link
unless it is iced coffee, i guess
yeah, black. i only ever put milk in it if it tastes burnt (like if it is from starbucks). if there's sugar in it i can't finish it at all.
― harbl, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:48 (fourteen years ago) link
I use 1% milk but never sugar.
― Fennec fox which does grooming (ENBB), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:48 (fourteen years ago) link
Sometimes splenda but that's only if I'm having it as a dessert or something.

u could prob find good coffee locally that is not starbucks btw--my friend orders from deansbeans.com in MA but if you don't buy enough at a time the shipping can cost as much as the coffee. whole foods is not convenient to get to but i went to different grocery store and found some that is good and costs the same as safeway crap. i am happy now. the last few weeks i have been just wanting to take a nap all day :(
― harbl, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:49 (fourteen years ago) link
The Midwest is completely married to drinking coffee black, they will mercilessly mock anyone who doctors it. However, in NYC and Boston and I don't know where else, "light and sweet" is considered "the usual", and everyone from cops to truck drivers to construction workers take their coffee w milk and sugar. Just another reason to love New York, I sez.

btw i've recently become the proud owner of one of those bialetti stovetop deals, and there's a place a block away that roasts the beans on the premises, so
― i want to marry a pizza (gbx), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:52 (fourteen years ago) link
drinkin iced coffee from a jam jar right now, iirc
I love the Bialetti-style coffee! I need to replace my old one, I guess they do get mucky and worn after a while. Also it was straight aluminum and I think I want a better quality version next time. Add to half a cup of hot milk and you get instant morning.

"light and sweet" is considered "the usual"
Yes here they just say "regular" and that means l&s. It's very hard to explain this to people not from the US who might order a regular coffee just meaning filtered and not a latte or something. JUST SAY COFFEE!! s,dhng;liwehGBRG.
― Fennec fox which does grooming (ENBB), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:54 (fourteen years ago) link
Yeah! Actually I usually have to ask for way less sugar, delis will PILE that shit in.

tho my friend vijay swears up and down that dunkin donuts coffee is its own drink, wholly apart from "real coffee"

I drink my coffee pretty in the mornings and black in the afternoons.
Didja know that coffee is considered a "clear liquid" in regards to medical testing and scans? In other words, if you're getting your guts checked out and have to fast for eight hours, you can still drink coffee and water. Go figure.

I used to hate coffee until about five or six months ago. Thought it tasted like an ash tray full of boiling water. Turns out you just add sugar and then your life gets better.
