Fiddle-heavy alternative/postpunk/whatev that I only discovered a few years back... always curious about how well they were known in their native UK.

isn't that the one where they tried to go "indie dance"? not so well received for good reason iirc. the "barbarous english fayre" comp is the one stop shop of the early stuff - it snarls https://img.discogs.com/d6hWGx2pTLWp6Mp1YyKAQvNa4fE=/fit-in/600x628/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-330263-1127155124.jpeg.jpg

wow uh if it is it's not too noticeable. Barbarous is definitely a better record overall tho!

yeh i think i got dandelions mixed up with one of their later things which had a misfortanuble madchester bandwagon aspect to it

Captures them right at the right time. Nice searing guitar leads and chooglesomeness.
Would like to hear a full set from some time over the previous year and a half too though.

heaviosity from the early 70s. Quite great.
Do wish Numero hadn't stopped making cds though.

haven't listened to this in a while trying to pick up as much sub-Saharan psych type rock as possible over time.
Or whatever the less northern hemispheric version of that statement applies.
Wish there was a book dedicated to the genre of Afrodelia or however you want to put it.

this was being played in Fopp last week, and its one of first times in my life i've had to say "WHAT IS THIS YOU'RE PLAYING I MUST KNOW IT". beautiful lp.

Hmmmmm (jamiesummerz), Thursday, 5 September 2019 16:15 (four years ago) link

Hadn't realised he was still recording that late.
I have the lp called Liberation Music orchestra and assumed by the art that this must be for sometime back then.
have to check this out then.

Stevolende, Thursday, 5 September 2019 18:54 (four years ago) link

tracks 1 and 5 are from one of his last shows. tracks 2-4 are his band arranged by carla bley, playing in tribute to him. the whole thing rules.

you really must check out the ballad of the fallen as well jamie.

the album notes by Haden do enrich the already so so fucking beautiful and moving music. Silence still slays me.

jerkcurb — 'air con eden'

just released today, but pretty much better than any other new release i've heard this year not by abdullah ibrahim. such a cliched evaluation, but it's absolutely beautiful.

NUmero group release of anachronistic sounding 1977 lp. It sounds like it should be from about 5 years, possibly more earlier.
Have heard comparisons made to Astral Weeks. I hear Bioll Withers among other things.
Came with a 5" 33rpm single that I had thought was going to be normal size and mess up the postage. I think the tracks on taht are on the end of the cd anyway.

collection of recordings glen Campbell made as demoes for Elvis Presley. Seems to be right around the time Campbell is making a name for himself solo though I can't find dates in the linernotes. So seems mid 60s semi blue eyed soulish stuff among other influences.
Quite enjoyable, turned up in a local sale so I thought I'd give it a chance

Mojo picked Best of the year, seems a couple of months early doesn't it? I needed a 3rd disc for my 3-changer and this does have some interesting stuff on it.

Stevolende, Monday, 16 September 2019 10:23 (four years ago) link

man, that willie wright looks clean. really want to hear it!

been really enjoying two abdullah ibrahims from the 80s this morning. kind of larger arrangements of some of his best stuff from the late 70s / early 80s. african river closes with 'the mountain of the night' which is SO DAMN CATCHY. i seriously want to learn it and record my own version of it. fantastic stuff.
