Here is my alternate edition where I care about lyrics and melody, like a stooge

• Stevie Wonder - Living For The City
• The Police - Walking On The Moon
• Boredoms
• Yelle
• A Tribe Called Quest

Pretend I picked one song by the last three. I’m tired.

King Crimson - Islands

This is a beautiful melody, which used to float through my head often.

Thanks! I thought this was the most unusual pick in my selection, given that somehow most KC fans don't think much of the entire Islands album. A couple of years ago, the song made their way onto their setlists (I think thanks to current singer Jakko Jakszyk). I still can't believe that I heard it live last year.

Valentijn, Wednesday, 14 August 2019 18:05 (four years ago) link

Islands is great and among my favourite KC albums.

They're not engraving the 5 on your tombstone, it's just an internet message board! I just picked 5 off the top of my head, from different eras of my listening life, that I thought had a great combination of melody and lyric. I could pick another 50, the list is not definitive.

― Valentijn

AARGH! Sometimes I shouldn't post here while I should be working instead. I just realised that I managed to make an error in one of my supposedly-five-favourite-songs-of-all-times picks. It's as if my brain did some sort of erroneous auto-correct after typing 'the Co':
The Paul Simon selection should be 'The Cool, Cool River'
While I do like The Coast, there's five or six songs from the Rhythm Of The Saints album that I would rank above it. Over the last few years, I got increasingly fascinated with The Cool, Cool River.
