When they were big -- I was like 11 or 12 -- I thought the singer and Alexi Lalas were the same person. I think they just melded in my mind as an archetypal "90s college kid," the kind of older guy who wore CO-ED NAKED t-shirts, played hacky sack, and practiced with devil sticks.

umm they actually are the same person

two years pass...

Heard "Two Princes" last night for the first time in an eaon on ye' olde classic rock radio and had a major brain freeze moment not being able to remember the name of this band.

I racked my skull for nearly an hour trying to remember and it kept coming up Third Eye Blind or Seven Mary Three or Primitive Radio Gods- all I knew was wrong but that was what kept coming up out of the noggin. I could remember after a bit that the same band had a hit with "Little Miss Can't be Wrong" but the band name was lost.

I guess early senior moment...I of course had to check with the tech overlords when I pulled into the driveway at home last night.

That said, I was thinking that drum shuffle in "Two Princes" was pretty good and probably one reason it was a hit.

jesus christ, this must have been one of the first threads I ever started.

my brother saw these guys shortly before the pandemic at a hotel concert. he said it was pretty hilarious. but that everybody who went was allll about the singles. well, the two biggest ones at least. not the stuff like 'Turn It Upside Down".

The brother of the singer and I were roommates in Brooklyn for a while back in the day. He was a hippie too though we had a mutual love of Black Sabbath. I remember hearing him in the shower singing "War Pigs."

My most notable Spin Doctors moment was seeing their EP record release show at Wetlands.

My most notable brother-of-the-singer-of-Spin Doctors was when we were shot at coming back from a White Castle run at 3 AM.

I got nothing against the band or the singer's brother. The guy who shot at us? A little.

and i am working so I will get to peek in if I feel like it/we're not too busy

i saw Spin Doctors at an amusement part with Material Issue when I was in early high school and secretly thought they were pretty good even though I did not become a fan.

my brother and I liked them as kids and he saw them play a hotel a few years ago and he had a blast, though 75% of said blast was pure nostalgia and not because he loved "Cleopatra's Cat boopadobepbepbehbep"

Maybe I will employ this "what time is it" joke at work tonight and see if anyone gets it. as always, our reservations at the restaurant are directly related to who's playing.

Chris Barron was one of the most prominent dudes from the early 1990s who made it seem normal to grow a gross-ass beard. Here I am circa 1993 wearing a bucket hat that had been autographed by the Spin Doctors' rhythm section.

i honestly assumed this revive was because of that Alexandra Petri piece, which, I'm utterly surprised whenever she's able to publish something this obscure

"4-thirtay" gets a lot of love on the "60 Songs That Explain the 90s" episode on "Yellow Ledbetter," overall a pretty good episode IIRC.

OffTM lol! Yours truly will be in the building with this guy and his ticket-buying fans for dinner tonight. How could I resist reviving/posting?

Omg what a funny night. The tour manager sat in my section and I asked him what to expect from the show.
His answer: “greatness”
I asked him to be more specific and he said audience would hear all the hits.
I asked “even 4:30?”
He said “4:20?” And i was like no
Four THIRTAY
And we loled and then after my shift as I was about to hop on my bike and merch guy (who was at my table w manager) asked if I wanted to meet him (Chris B) and at first I was like I’m good then I changed my mind.
He did not remember playing at the amusement park w Material Issue but we had some real lols and I got him to say four thirtay and took a selfie. Decent and very normal guy.

I was at the show (a friend I was meeting up with anyway suggested going), and it makes me want to see more lead singers/songwriters of multi-platinum bands perform solo shows. It was dark!!

Barron on the solo tour: "This solo project is really about learning and just expressing the broadness of my musicality. Because as a composer and a lyricist, I can’t fit everything I do into the Spin Doctors.”

You nerds are pretty much the only thing in the world that could come close to giving me FOMO for missing a Chris Barron solo show. But even then just barely.
