really dont see it tbh

No, it would be the most surprising signing since Klinsmann, and with significantly higher barriers.

The only way it would work would be if Levy's decided the current wage structure is unsustainable. Realistically, idk if Harry Kane is going to be happy earning exactly half as much per week as Aaron Ramsey, for the next six years.

ShariVari, Thursday, 8 August 2019 07:32 (four years ago) link

Don't they have a ridiculous bonus system that means their real earnings are significantly higher than their weekly reported wage though?

I mean it seems implausible that they're going to get this far down the road and then go "oh, we didn't realise Dybala's wage demands were going to be so high" but who even knows. Maybe Levy is deluded enough to think he can boardroom hard man him into submission.

Matt DC, Thursday, 8 August 2019 07:49 (four years ago) link

Or it was all a bluff to get Betis to fold on lo Celso, idk.

ShariVari, Thursday, 8 August 2019 07:58 (four years ago) link

ive more concerns about him fitting tbh

weve moved up from salary caps and fees being a ceiling given progress and money saved the past few years

but cant see levy or poch chucking the bases for that progress out to start behaving in a way that has badly failed arsenal or utd recently

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Thursday, 8 August 2019 08:35 (four years ago) link

imo he'll go to utd now lukaku funds freed

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Thursday, 8 August 2019 09:08 (four years ago) link

Not a whisper of any business for us

Apart from dumping Rojo on Everton

Still time for Ollie to register himself

bbc guy says that eriksen is on his way to carrington

Br. Des Shadows (NickB), Thursday, 8 August 2019 10:10 (four years ago) link

do they even have a football team?

levy'd

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Thursday, 8 August 2019 10:18 (four years ago) link

eriksen surely leaves, whether utd today or a european outfit later matters not

but lo celso/ndombele in, eriksen/wanyama out is neither a disaster nor a huge leap forward, regardless that it'll be painted as both

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Thursday, 8 August 2019 10:19 (four years ago) link

Lo Celso and Ndombele are several years younger than either and Ndombele is almost certainly a major upgrade on any of our central midfielders. Sessegnon looks like it's happening as well although he's obviously a work in progress I'm confident in Poch to work his magic on him.

Matt DC, Thursday, 8 August 2019 10:24 (four years ago) link

Twitter seems to think Sessegnon has hit problems.

Think I'm just going to turn the internet off until about half past five tonight.

groovypanda, Thursday, 8 August 2019 10:37 (four years ago) link

Why would anyone want to go to Arsenal, igi, but really why would Luiz want to?

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 8 August 2019 10:37 (four years ago) link

can we start arguing about this season's thread title now so it's ready for tomorrow? would propose "Your old car is completely reliable, but you want a new one and two weeks later it breaks down" but it's a bit much

seven against feebs (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 8 August 2019 10:39 (four years ago) link

Throwing "Steve Bruce is the rock on which Newcastle's free flowing football finally flounders" up for consideration, stumbled on it somewhere

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 8 August 2019 10:46 (four years ago) link

just been reminded that Leon Clarke is technically a Premier League footballer at the moment

seven against feebs (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 8 August 2019 10:50 (four years ago) link

You must be Joachim: Liverpool will not compete for the Gibraltar Premier Division 2020

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Thursday, 8 August 2019 11:55 (four years ago) link

gah i've not been able to get this out of my head since hearing robyn in the co-op this morning, someone's going to have to fill in the blanks for me though:

paulo dybala / he's not the guy you're taking home / we'll just get _____ ____ on loan

Br. Des Shadows (NickB), Thursday, 8 August 2019 12:23 (four years ago) link

thank god andy carroll doesn't scan

Br. Des Shadows (NickB), Thursday, 8 August 2019 12:24 (four years ago) link

Looks like Sessegnon and Lo Celso are done.

Matt DC, Thursday, 8 August 2019 14:43 (four years ago) link

I honestly couldn't tell you how good lo Celso is and i've probably seen him 15 times. I'm looking forward to seeing how he does, though.

Mooy and Maupay to Brighton is good business imo.

ShariVari, Thursday, 8 August 2019 14:50 (four years ago) link

Sarr to Watford too.

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Thursday, 8 August 2019 16:32 (four years ago) link

lo Celso is a loan?

ShariVari, Thursday, 8 August 2019 16:33 (four years ago) link

Loan w/ option to buy him for 55m next year

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 8 August 2019 16:38 (four years ago) link

Which is a pretty sweet deal imo

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 8 August 2019 16:39 (four years ago) link

different info on whether its an obligation or an option

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Thursday, 8 August 2019 16:47 (four years ago) link

Mooy isn't one of the wasters that downed tools last season but he's been a shadow of the player he was for a while. This funny business of getting him to sign a contract extension then loaning him to Brighton might backfire on us - if he has another dud season it might be hard to move him on when the club is thinking how much they could have got for him in this window. He must have agitated for the move because we just received £15m for Billing and are not under pressure to sell and the players all take 40% wage cuts with the relegation - or something like that is written into all their contracts. Proper tight northern bstads!

calzino, Thursday, 8 August 2019 16:49 (four years ago) link

I think it's an obligation to buy Lo Celso unless we fail to qualify for Europe. In which case it becomes an option, and he won't want to take it.

Matt DC, Thursday, 8 August 2019 17:17 (four years ago) link

wasnt benik afobe....good...recently enough?

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Thursday, 8 August 2019 17:20 (four years ago) link
