No, sadly the place where I saw him closed a long time ago. It was called Sweet Melissa, and it was a sort of upscale bakery/cafe that did lunches.

three weeks pass...

This is the second consecutive Labor Day weekend in which I've seen Michael Shannon. Last year I passed him and his daughter on the sidewalk in Red Hook. Today he was on the train back to Chicago from the Steely Dan show in the suburbs.

that's weird!

I've done likewise 'check out that twat, thinks he's Bono'.... oops

― kinder, Friday, 15 March 2019 21:11

I've also done this (a long time ago now) with Liam Gallagher. was in a pub in Belsize Park, some wanker comes in prancing about like Kathy Burke in Kevin & Perry, and I say "look at that twat, thinks he's Liam Gallagher"

Lesley Joseph of Birds of A Feather fame sitting outside an ice cream parlour in Eastbourne in full stage makeup (she was in Annie in a theatre across the road). Looking damn good for nearly 74 as well.
(I know this will mean nothing to non-UK readers - and most UK readers probably).

My guess is Northbank on the other side of the river.

I've seen two celebrities in my life. By coincidence they were both departing from a jetty in a boat. The first was Hugh Scully from television's The Antiques Roadshow. It was in Weymouth. To this day I'm not sure if he was waving to the general public, or specifically to friends of his on land. There was something absurd and yet majestic about the sight of Scully sailing off. He was David Niven on a lower budget, but he did no-one any harm.

The second was Brad Pitt, at this year's Venice Film Festival:

But that doesn't really count because it was a specific celebrity event where people go to deliberately spot celebrities. That's like spotting a footballer at a football match. It's easy, because the pitch is brighly-lit with floodlights and there are twenty footballers and two goalkeepers in full view of everybody. Even if the outfits are the same colour as the pitch you can still see their legs.

No, Sting! That's the third one. He used to go to the same dentist as me. I walked past him while he was in the waiting room.

I walked past Jay Rayner just off Trafalgar Square a while back, I'm sure the voluminous hairdo wasn't helping, but I remember being taken aback at how large his head was.

Surely this doesnt count unless like, I dunno, the pope was strolling along on his own with a walkman on and a pair of high top sneakers.

I was at the Madonna Inn this weekend with James Gunn and his girlfriend for her birthday. Ok I wasn’t there with them but it was happening while I was there. I managed to not see them or even know it was happening until after the weekend was over though.

Diane Morgan aka Philomena Cunk and the single mum in Motherland, in the Bloomsbury street around the corner from mine with all the nice restaurants and clothes shops. I’d spotted a scruffy toy poodle that looked just like my mum’s, and was in the middle of chatting to its owner when I realised who the owner was (no, I did not own up to that recognition, we just chatted about the dog for a bit and went our separate ways).

A N. Wilson today. LOL celebrity.

Starmer: "Let the children boogie, let all the children boogie." (Tom D.), Wednesday, 27 October 2021 09:22 (two years ago) link

I can't think of A.N. Wilson without thinking of that amazing literary hoax from years back by the rival Betjeman scholar.

Lily Dale, Wednesday, 27 October 2021 13:00 (two years ago) link

I enjoyed how it was "A N Wilson is a shit" rather than "is shit" or "is a cunt" - somehow both ruder and more classy a putdown.

Claire Grogan. I was on the 91 on my way into work when I spotted her getting off at the stop outside Pentonville Prison - but I'm trying not to read too much into that. I wasn't sure it was her at first but then I noticed she had an Altered Images shoulder bag.

Rod Stewart. I was passing through St Pancras Station on my lunch break and noticed a grand piano and drumkit had been set up. Coming back there was Rod and Jools Holland deep in discussion. His hair is still very impressive.

Saw John Stamos and Ben Stiller the same day on a long walk to Tribeca. Huge day for celebraties.

I was on the number 30 bus in Dalston recently alongside Bobby Gillespie. And in a café in Birmingham with Jess Phillips. Never see anyone up here except Pat sodding Nevin everywhere I go.
