I don’t really have an opinion on its place in musical history, but I hated big beat and I loved “Freestyler” (and still do)

I find it pretty difficult to lump Freestyler in with big beat, it has way more in conmon with all the big electro tunes that came after, Moguai, Tomcraft, Moonbootica, Huntemann etc.

Been listening to those four and was reminded of a novelty electro record a friend had on promo cd in 2001, was a 4-track promo with different mixes, very little if any vocals... it was sort of a "fun track" but had a unique sound... sorry, not able to remember or describe very well, but would really like to find it.

Surely Sweet Like Chocolate for this one? Sugary UK Garage perfection

There are at least 10 things here that make me feel deep joy but I'm going to ask nitpicking questions anyway... is that Quickspace Happy Song #1 or #2?

a passing spacecadet, Monday, 5 August 2019 21:17 (four years ago) link

I think #1 was released on 7" without the #1 on the end of the title, but a '99 release date probably points at #2.

Eh, anyway, that or Second Line or Sweet Like Chocolate or Deceptacon or Flat Beat/Dooms Night (these two wub-wub-wub tracks have been melded into one in my head ever since 1999, but it's a good one) or Windowlicker or King of Snake or...

xp from the Precious Little EP which apparently makes it #2, and, er, from 1998.

it has just occurred to me that I've never heard Quickspace Happy Song #1 (I've got the #2 7")

Jim O'Rourke's "Women of the World" and Eureka as an album were so beautiful

"Echo's Answer" frequently feels like the best song from any year when it's playing, so...
