really couldn't relate to Hunger, felt like I wasn't in the same constellation when I saw it, would watch it again though

lmao at Avatar still being that highly rated

this rating is equally unfathomable to me:

UP IN THE AIR (Jason Reitman, USA) [#471]

A is for (Aimless), Thursday, 22 August 2019 00:04 (four years ago) link

I didn’t notice at first that the ranking is only for 21st C films.

Dan S, Thursday, 22 August 2019 01:02 (four years ago) link

it's kind of surprising that Avatar would be one of only two films from 2009 that have so far made it onto the all-time list

Dan S, Thursday, 22 August 2019 01:11 (four years ago) link

My favorite films:

Summer Hours (Olivier Assayas)
A Serious Man (Ethan and Joel Coen)
Fantastic Mr. Fox (Wes Anderson)
Bright Star (Jane Campion)
The Headless Woman (Lucretia Martel)
Me and Orson Welles (Richard Linklater)
Julia (Erick Zonca)
Two Lovers (James Gray)
Tetro (Francis Ford Coppola)
Still Walking (Hirokazu Kore-eda)

Mine:

Tetro (Francis Ford Coppola, USA/Argentina/Spain)
A Serious Man (Joel & Ethan Coen, USA)
Fantastic Mr. Fox (Wes Anderson, USA)
Dogtooth (Yorgos Lanthimos, Greece)
Antichrist (Lars Von Trier, Int’l)
Halloween II (Rob Zombie, USA) [director’s cut]
Enter the Void's opening credits (Gaspar Noé, France)
Inglourious Basterds (Quentin Tarantino, USA)
Mother (Bong Joon-ho, South Korea)
I Love You, Phillip Morris (Glenn Ficarra & John Requa, USA)

Two Lovers would be in the top 3, but I go with IMDB date.

Pauline Male (Eric H.), Thursday, 22 August 2019 13:20 (four years ago) link

I Love You, Phillip Morris didn't open here until fall 2010 (I should say "was dumped here").

still haven't seen Tetro

Dan S, Friday, 23 August 2019 00:45 (four years ago) link

I worked at a movie theater in Buffalo that was playing Tetro, and Vincent Gallo's mom called one afternoon and wanted to know if there was any foul language in it. I told her I knew it was rated R but I hadn't seen it, and she got really mad at me and hung up.
