my favorite band microwave are putting out a new record on september 13th called death is a warm blanket
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBhz1c-UonY
i have already heard the record. it's their best. would readily compare it to some canonical br*nd n*w lps

(also released by epitaph apparently)
these rock children seem quite callow and exactly zero percent of the music seems original yet i find that that does not matter AT ALL at the moment

Just caught up on everything itt. I loved the pronoun album and the new Remo Drive (not sure why everyone's hating on it so much?). I had listened to a random track on that Thank You Scientist album and assumed it wasn't for me, so I'm grateful to have revisited it. When it hits, it's so good.
I've got to rep for this Weatherday album again because it is start to finish incredible and has the best album art of the year and is possibly even album of the year. The rawest, loudest lo-fi emo. It's so inventive and goes so hard - just listen to the first ten seconds of the album! Below is one of the shorter songs as a sample of just how awesome this album can be, but the real highlight is the 14-minute track at the heart of it.

While I'm here, I've got to also recommend the equally difficult to categorise and wonderful Glass Beach. This is a bit sparklier sounding... A bit like if Hellogoodbye had been heavier and into prog and insane time signatures.

Also the new Prince Daddy and the Hyena is wild if you like stuff like New Found Glory at their best and PUP.

I think the visitors of this thread would love Peaer's A Healthy Earth, which has a loose, jazzy, lush feel, Albinian dynamic range and wonderfully idiosyncratic songs

man i tried that Glass Beach record and i didn't get it
― alpine static, Monday, 26 August 2019 23:47 (four years ago) link
xp - I read that as Albanian dynamic range

Digging the Glass beach. Thanks for the rec. Reminds me a lot of The Brave Little Abacus but with more video game music influence.

the more time i spend with it the more i think the glass beach album is amazing

I finally figured out what Glass Beach reminds me of - the second Paper Airplanes record. (the Glass Beach is way more unhinged and ambitious tho)

idek what Turnover count as anymore but both of their new tunes are chill and lovely, seems a shame it didn't come out in time for summer

lastly idk how I missed that there's a new Tiny Moving Parts out Friday and they've released three excellent advance tracks? nothing really new but no one else writes concise hooky math-emo quite like them

aaand brad was not lying about the Microwave album. it's seriously good
the TMP is also good but in a more "on par" kinda way (nothing wrong with that)
― Simon H., Saturday, 14 September 2019 08:19 (four years ago) link
yes the microwave is a scorcher

Can't stop listening to Modern Baseball's complete discography these past few days. They were such a good band, I really miss them.

I wanted to like that Microwave album a lot because it reminds me of so many bands and sounds that i love, but couldn't fully get into it. I've been obsessed with the Glass Beach album since mentioned in here. Jesus. seem like really nice people too. got back to me after I said some nice things on instagram and they were lovely. Hope they come to ny.

it might have been a mistake to instinctively skip last year's Cursive record cause the advance tracks from the new one are sounding solid
― Simon H., Tuesday, 1 October 2019 14:23 (four years ago) link
holy crap this glass beach album is so balls-to-the-wall, it's like if los campesinos wrote the soundtrack to la la land

the new 95-minute Jeff Rosenstock record gives you a very good sense of their show right down to the anti-harassment warning, even if I'm mad "Get Old Forever" somehow didn't make the cut
― Simon H., Friday, 18 October 2019 05:13 (four years ago) link
*live record, sorry if that made anyone too excited lol
new 95-minute Jeff Rosenstock record wait what?... Aw shit yes, I'll be in on this today

Has anyone else tried the Weatherday album? Strong Brave Little Abacus vibes, but much faster and brighter. It takes roughly two seconds to begin digging the album a lot, and although it doesn't sustain that heart-in-stomach feeling all the way through, there are some insane highs.
