This is really a special day, getting my first actual taste of these bands whose flyers made me giggle fifteen years ago.

guess i’ll just share that those videos surprised me and i always assumed that like lower tier jam bands that can still somehow sell out first avenue are not just actually shitty and totally incompetent, what a wild world

This band, who I've never actually heard, was the breaking point for my wife's jam band era. I think she might have ended seeing them with the hippie roommates and fucking hated it so much that it made her suddenly and jarringly realize how dumb so much of that shit was and how obnoxious and idiotic and mindless and snobby all the hippies who frequented her house were.

She used to sing the line "take the train to HOOKAVILLE" to me as shorthand for "my hippie roomates did something stupid or irresponsible again" or to make me mad but it would fill her with shame to do so and she'd get angry at herself about it.

PS. I still love the Dead and refuse to strongly denounce Phish.

idk at the end of the day it’s like, on a board where people enthusiastically and unironically embrace fatboy slim, third eye blind, and limp bizkit, maybe it’s not super weird to suggest that “hooch” is a more or less cleverly constructed pop tune and i sort of get that it’s funny to be histrionic and pretend to faint when you hear it bc it’s the worst thing ever and the lyrics are a crime against humanity but actually there is just so much worse music (two in the poll, two vids in thread)

budo, it's cool to like things that are garbage (god knows I love my own share) but 'Hooch' is unquestionably dumpster runoff.

Jake Cinninger of Umphrey's McGee is a very skilled guitarist. UM just have extremely corny ideas and are allowed to make money that way because jamband people love corny ideas.
