Even Trump acknowledging there’s no strategy behind attacking Cummings, via pool: , "There’s no strategy, I have no strategy, there’s zero strategy…There’s no strategy, it’s very simple.”

The saddest/stupidest part is that journalists - including Haberman - will continue writing about his "strategy" until he wins re-election or the earth is swallowed by the sun, whichever comes first.

It’s really strange when he accidentally tells the truth

NEWS ... Texas GOP Rep. Mike Conaway is retiring after 15 years in Congress. This is the fifth retirement in two weeks.

— Jake Sherman (@JakeSherman) July 31, 2019

The GOP is losing some of its most well liked members. Roby. Mitchell. Conaway. Brooks. Olsen.

Retirements are again a problem for the House GOP

— Jake Sherman (@JakeSherman) July 31, 2019

Are people in the GOP retiring because they don't think they can change anything inside the party?
I'm assuming shrinking to fit the orthodoxy of Trump enabling if that is what is happening may also be shrinking the voting base to some degree.
Not great anyway, if it means that GOP progressively loses an ability to correct itself. Though whatever currently represents GOP probably thinks it's perfectly right already and the rest of the country needs to get in line with it.

I wish the phrase "people who like their health insurance" would fucking die. People who "like" their health insurance have Stockholm syndrome.

shared unit of analysis (unperson), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 13:17 (four years ago) link

If you take away their insurance, they die. Win-win!

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 13:22 (four years ago) link

people like their doctors, not their insurers. I guess candidates are wary of promising that everyone would get to keep their doctor since we all remember Obama said that and it was the Great Lie that blots out the 10,000 lies Trump tells every single day.

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 14:00 (four years ago) link

WOW! #Trump's prompter often contains phonetic spellings because he knows so little and is such a bad reader. Today, George Wythe was spelled "With" for him. He just pronounced the name of this historical figure correctly and then, inexplicably, read out the incorrect spelling. pic.twitter.com/Hss0WPUE4c

SHANTY the golden fish portion (stevie), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 14:21 (four years ago) link

We've got some pretty shitty doctors back home, and they usually expect a tip on top of everything else (speaking of which, we've got thousands of words for 'tip' in Romanian…). Can't you switch to a different one?

Inertia is a powerful force. Honestly, it's fine. I go in every 3-4 months, she tells me I'm soft and out of shape (which I know) and that I eat like shit (which I know) and asks me if I need any of my prescriptions refilled, and I give her $150 'cause she doesn't take my insurance.

shared unit of analysis (unperson), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 15:02 (four years ago) link

lol, then she doesn't sound like a bad doctor, just very un-American.

pomenitul, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 15:07 (four years ago) link

I ditched my doctor after coming to him for 7 years and getting the same “you’re young, don’t worry about it” from him well into my 40s.

My doctor now is a millennial who will tell me exactly what she thinks is my ailment and what the treatment is, if any.

CNN’s Don Lemon, the dumbest man on television, insinuated last night while asking a debate “question” that I was a racist, when in fact I am “the least racist person in the world.” Perhaps someone should explain to Don that he is supposed to be neutral, unbiased & fair,.....

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 31, 2019

....or is he too dumb (stupid} to understand that. No wonder CNN’s ratings (MSNBC’s also) have gone down the tubes - and will stay there until they bring credibility back to the newsroom. Don’t hold your breath!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 31, 2019

"too dumb (stupid}" should def be part of the August thread title

The least-racist indicator probably conforms exactly to GOP pecking order, with Jim Inhofe clocking in at #10 or something

The Ravishing of ROFL Stein (Hadrian VIII), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 16:46 (four years ago) link

Does trump call any caucasians racist or does he just reserve the term for other ethnicities?
Noticed that he used the term for both the members of the squad and Elijah Cummings.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 16:59 (four years ago) link

arguably there were some white racists in the past, but obviously trump would be fully aware of that and wouldn't, you know, choose one of them as his favorite president
