I could nominate Dr Morbius for the Nobel Peace Prize, probably stands as much of a chance as John Bolton.

I think the distinction between truth and parody was obliterated some time ago, so your confusion is understandable.

When asked about a Washington Post columnist “calling Mitch McConnell a Russian asset,” the president replied “I think the Washington Post is a Russian asset.”

— Josh Dawsey (@jdawsey1) July 30, 2019

He's literally reduced to "I know you are but what am I" at this point.

He also claims to have received emails, calls and letters from people in Baltimore who support him, but of course none of the assembled reporters asked him to produce one of these letters.

TBF it is illegal for the president to lie to his constituents so you just gotta trust the system.

xpost Also to never challenge the president when he claims to have received a call from an entire group of people or when he's perceived a facial expression someone made on the other end of the line or when he claims to have spent the evening chatting on the phone with a boat or a can of tuna.

trump's skintone is particularly vivid today, really sets off the slopping tongue lolling around in his mouth as he bellows a handful of syllables at a time at the media

so, regarding the ridiculous thing about Trump commenting on and signing printed versions of tweets..

a friend of mine used to work for a local free weekly publication and did a "12 places Donald Trump could go out to eat in our city if he runs for president" jokey article in 2012

he received an email message shortly after with a scanned image of the article he'd written, with "We'll see!" handwritten on it, signed by Trump

The president’s remarks have been matched by strident rhetoric on the Chinese side. At a news conference on Monday, Hua Chunying, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, called the United States “capricious, arrogant and selfish” after the Trump administration challenged China’s claim to a special status for developing countries at the World Trade Organization.
“There is a catchphrase that got popular just recently in China: ‘Don’t do things like the U.S. does.’ I hope some people of the U.S. side can deeply reflect on it,” she said.

Retirements are again a problem for the House GOP

Are people in the GOP retiring because they don't think they can change anything inside the party?
I'm assuming shrinking to fit the orthodoxy of Trump enabling if that is what is happening may also be shrinking the voting base to some degree.
Not great anyway, if it means that GOP progressively loses an ability to correct itself. Though whatever currently represents GOP probably thinks it's perfectly right already and the rest of the country needs to get in line with it.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 13:22 (four years ago) link

people like their doctors, not their insurers. I guess candidates are wary of promising that everyone would get to keep their doctor since we all remember Obama said that and it was the Great Lie that blots out the 10,000 lies Trump tells every single day.

WOW! #Trump's prompter often contains phonetic spellings because he knows so little and is such a bad reader. Today, George Wythe was spelled "With" for him. He just pronounced the name of this historical figure correctly and then, inexplicably, read out the incorrect spelling. pic.twitter.com/Hss0WPUE4c
