The 93-94 stuff is pretty much all great - the first Alter Ego album on Harthouse, and the material he did under the other names: Goya, Acid Jesus, Warp 69, Primitive Painter.

lmao i only realized after my second listen that the sept. 21 rinse show is all his stuff, it's a very compelling mix imo. he seems to like... chimes lol.

some bits made me remember the kind of minimal crunchy techno of years past
Dominik Eulberg’s Kreucht & Fleucht cd mix was a good reference point, probably going to pull that out tomorrow

Agree with the 93-94 period being great. Also love the first 2 Sensorama LPs. I managed to get the Primitive Painter LP from Hardwax a few years ago, it's got that renaissance sound..

ahhh I didn't realise Sensorama was Roman Flugel! I discovered Sensorama on the absolutely mind-bending Ladomat 2000 comps

'Themes I-XIII' which came out last year on ESP Institute is a bit different from his regular output - well worth checking. More of an ambient, downtempo, balearic vibe.

Aren't all of these collaborations with Wutke and not Flügel solo?

Tuomas, Thursday, 26 September 2019 10:52 (four years ago) link

And Sensorama as well?

Tuomas, Thursday, 26 September 2019 10:52 (four years ago) link

Anyway, the second Alter Ego album is IMO pretty much the best thing Flügel and Wutke ever did. One of the few mid-90s IDM albums that's stood the test of time. The first one is good too, but a bit too wispy for my tastes.
