i wish there was a little more to it, but it's still quite nice

The verse melody reminds me of the verse melody from Hilary Duff‘s “Come Clean.”

It's a solid album track.

they share a recognition that Taylor is at her best when the melodic charisma of the top line, the emotional vulnerability of the vocal performance and the relatability and detail of the lyrics all come together.

part of what makes "you need to calm down" frustrating to me is that it has a really strong top line, but the rest of it has nothing else you describe and that's precisely why it sucks

this song specifically sounds like the alt-country record i've been wanting her to make for years. i don't hear rote or hackneyed at all, seems like at least part of this album is gonna be red as recorded by jack antonoff

I was surprised by how much I liked the verse to this, but then in the chorus I started cringing at her head voice (which I just dislike) and the way it ended with the word "lover" isolated like it's clever or some shit, and then the bridge devolved entirely into the Will Ferrell/Rachel Dratch SNL sketch and I ended up scowling out the window wishing for something to punch

I think I have tickets for the “private” show here in Paris next month? she’s playing the Olympia, a 2000 seat venue. she’s only played one show here ever, on the Speak Now tour, besides promos (which this one is too, though they’re making a few tickets available for the public).

I agree the bridge sucks, which is funny because I heard T.Swift say in a recent interview(?) that "Lover" is/might be her favorite song she's ever written, and that she loves writing good bridges and she was really proud of the bridge on this one.
