Ellis has a good eye for details there, cf Bronn abandoning his gold at the loot train to save Jaime vs him a season later being easily bribed into killing Jaime and Tyrion

If you've got low expectations (as I did), you'll probably enjoy it.

It's enjoyable enough up until the final episode which is a complete car crash.

It's not great, but it's fine. It easily hurdles over the low bar of being better than the BSG and Lost finales, at least.

The season or two before it wasn't great either. If you enjoyed those keep with it? There's stuff to enjoy regardless.

Last season is worse than having your nuts smashed in a car door, better than having them caught in a moving escalator.

I'd rather spend an eternity in hell rewatching the finale than a disappointed fan vlog about the finale

the last season isn't so bad if you think of it as a very long action movie starring actors who previously appeared on the tv show Game of Thrones

Damn, what a fail-up - by their own admission seems like show really succeeded literally in spite of them.

the subtext of everything is: Will this be just for nerds? No, it will be for cools too!

Feel 100% validated in all my criticisms & it’s obvious it was a lot weaker when it went away from the books.

it seems like these guys could have fairly competently pulled off a 10 episode series based on a standalone 500 pages historical fiction novel, but why the hell tackle a fantasy series if magic gives you the ickies?

Was it infinity? I have yet to see it. I liked the film noir one I saw a while ago.

It was a big song and dance routine about how much more fun you're going to have with numbers in the future, and about how even though you won't see any more of us here, we'll be with you for the rest of your life. It's beautiful! Can't fully explain why but I've cried both times I've watched it, and just typing this is giving me wet eyes again.

Oh and number 42 makes a cameo appearance and he's dressed like Arthur Dent.

The Goldman/Watts prequel has been cancelled.

smart thing to do here is reboot in 2022.

the fire & blood one is still in development, right? that one always seemed like it made more sense as a series anyway

they'll do a Watchmen series type deal. Pick it up fifty years after the end of the main series, have some new threat, etc.

i think the one issue lingering w/the last couple seasons of GOT is that it revealed a fundamental lack of understanding about what had made the show great in the early going, and anyone handing these guys a show where they have to come up with the stories needs to remember that. they did however pull off a genuinely fine direct adaptation in those first four seasons, with few false notes and a welcome resistance to showing too much (much like the novels kept a lot of battle action offscreen).

Maybe this was well-known, but I just learned (from a video by the battlefield earth screenplay writer) that the big writing error in the first pilot was that they never mentioned that Cersei and Jaime were siblings.

Jamie's very first words to Cersei in the pilot are "As your brother..."

yeah they recast a bunch of parts. also:

The title sequence was different
An extensive opening scene showing a poisoned Jon Arryn, desperately trying with his last ounce of strength to write a warning letter, but then collapsing and dying
The early design of the White Walkers was slightly different, particularly their language
Cersei burning the feather Robert left at Lyanna's tomb
Jon gets drunk at the Winterfell feast, as in the novels
More exposition between Jaime and Ned about the Mad King
An actual flashback to the Mad King killing Ned's father and older brother
A scene in the training yard with Bran and Tommen sparring, then Robb and Joffrey (from the books).
Catelyn wanting Sansa to go south, and Luwin being the one to urge Ned to go south
The Jaime/Cersei and Daenerys/Drogo sex scenes were changed

can't wait until we have GoT truthers demanding that Jamie and Cersei are related
