we had a laptop in flames on our floor, one of the bad batch that they are recalling.
(it's a big floor, probably two hundred macbooks in total.)

I may have to buy that rumored 16” MacBook if it’s not too insane $$$

I had my battery and lower case replaced for free because of the battery issue
― EZ Snappin, Saturday, 13 July 2019 21:13 (four years ago) link
Unfortunately the IT supplier that we use seems to have a different set of priorities and hasn't sorted out a returns policy as yet. People who have affected laptops, according to the serial number checker, have reported it but have been told to keep using the laptop until arrangements have been made.
― koogs, Sunday, 14 July 2019 06:19 (four years ago) link
I had a 17" macbook pro (last model made) that spit out a puff of flame from its FW port one day. Apple called me and asked if I was injured (presumably to head off a lawsuit). I wasn't, but every last part of that laptop was eventually replaced.

everybody has AirPods now though

They tend to be a bit fatter than the real thing. But I have to say my main evidence is just "there's no way all these people can afford £150 headphones"

I'm trying to think of a reason i shouldn't just pay £100 for new screen and battery on my SE and i can't think of a single one apart from the shitty front-facing camera

It’s going to be iPhone 8-sized though? Too big imo. SE-sized but with edge-to-edge screen is what’s wanted.
― stet, Thursday, 12 September 2019 11:58 (four years ago) link
Calling bs on that report. They’re still selling the 8, which is 4.7 “

my SE battery is shot and I'm tired of waiting to see if they're gonna release another small phone so I'm considering an 11 Pro... I would be fine with an 8 since it's relatively compact and all I really need upgrade-wise is 256GB of storage but they still want $700 for an iPhone 8, fuck off with that nonsense. An 11 costs that much!
― the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Thursday, 12 September 2019 14:04 (four years ago) link
The 8/128 is $499
― calstars, Thursday, 12 September 2019 14:09 (four years ago) link
Apple isn't even selling the 8/256GB model anymore though... wireless retailers still have it, but want $700-750 for it. Anyone ever bought from a third party like eBay or whatever? Seems risky.

Been thinking of upgrading my 5 year old iPad - mainly to get bigger storage. Anything special about the new one? Or should I just go with a Pro?

f hazel in my neighbourhood you can get a new SE battery installed by a fella with a saggy waistband for about 40 bucks, which i think i'm going to do

once you get your battery replaced, this case attachment for my SE has revitalized it for me and only increased the size slightly:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NVJ62FJThree days off one full charge! Only $30
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 12 September 2019 16:17 (four years ago) link
I have an X for work but an SE for personal. All the SE needs is portrait mode and it would be a game changer tbqh.
― Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Thursday, 12 September 2019 16:35 (four years ago) link
Tracer... yes, I thought about just doing a battery replacement for my SE (I am fighting the loss of headphone jack as long as I can) but my 128GB SE is so full it can't even take pictures because there's no space left! I need that 256GB upgrade. I'm poking around online today to see if I can find a reputable source for a new 8/256GB model.
― the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Thursday, 12 September 2019 18:05 (four years ago) link

I’ve managed to get by with a 16gb SE these past 3 years. I have a separate MP3 player so I don’t keep music on it. I transfer my photos off of it regularly and I don’t use many apps. Still I’m currently barely squeaking by.
