pardon me for saying so but the fact that the President of the United States has a tendency to tag random people on Twitter is hilarious to me

'the person who was to become your future First Lady' is a very normal-brain thing to post, good work mr presidetn

no he announced his candidacy the same month he won the election. that's how it happened. xpost

That’s almost as incoherent as the message my mom just sent me about the article I wrote about St. Louis Park.

Fucksake, make it make sense....

wow that's inspiring

On one occasion, Alberta reports Trump finally gave in to signing a 2018 spending bill that didn't include border wall funding only after Ryan agreed to give him time to build suspense on Twitter.

lol

tfw when you lack the moral courage to stand up to a brain-damaged septuagenarian in order to enact your plan to crush the poor

one great thing about this social media summit is that the people who weren't invited are throwing tantrums about it

this includes ben garrison, who was DISINVITED after one of his old cartoons was held up as anti-semitic. he has already promised/threatened to draw about it

maura, Thursday, 11 July 2019 16:00 (four years ago) link

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/07/11/white-house-social-media-bias-talks-1576717

The invited guests include far-right activist Ali Alexander, who infamously claimed last month that Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), who has Indian and Jamaican heritage, is "not an American Black" in a tweet shared by Donald Trump Jr., as well as YourVoice America host Bill Mitchell, who has promoted the QAnon conspiracy theory alleging that Trump is waging a secret war against pedophiles and "deep state" saboteurs. Another expected attendee is James O'Keefe, whose undercover sting outfit Project Veritas has released what critics say are selectively edited videos depicting organizations ranging from Google to Planned Parenthood as biased and corrupt.

Pro-Trump political cartoonist Ben Garrison was also among those slated to attend, but the White House rescinded his invitation, POLITICO Playbook reported Wednesday, amid complaints that his work has promoted anti-Semitic tropes about Jewish financiers controlling world events.

I am reading the Alfred E. Neuman tag as the manner that was Tr*mp's way of calling another candidate a nickname, probably Buttigieg?

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Thursday, 11 July 2019 16:22 (four years ago) link

yes. Keeping his finger on the pulse, our fearless leader has mocked one of his many opponents with an accusation of youth and inability to be taken seriously by linking to the wrong twitter handle in a reference to a 66 year old satirical publication that ceased publication this month.

Pelosi said she’ll ask faith-based/evangelical groups to appeal to president to stop ICE raids. “They put him in office.”

maura, Thursday, 11 July 2019 17:00 (four years ago) link

sorry, speaking of those massive raids that are going to ruin the lives of thousands of families tomorrow (COOL COUNTRY WE LIVE IN!)

these are the same raids that democrats asked to be postponed so that they could give $5 billion to DHS with the intention of using the money to improve the wretched conditions in our detention camps for refugees (COOL COUNTRY WE LIVE IN!), right?

Karl Malone, Thursday, 11 July 2019 17:02 (four years ago) link

Pelosi should put up a comment box with a bunch of blank cards and a pencil on a string outside the WH fence. There's no way that Trump could withstand the fury of all those hastily-scrawled complaints.

Logy Psycho (Old Lunch), Thursday, 11 July 2019 17:03 (four years ago) link

Pelosi said she’ll ask faith-based/evangelical groups to appeal to president to stop ICE raids. “They put him in office.”

by the way, if you confront evangelicals with this, what they say is "i just want people to follow the law"

Karl Malone, Thursday, 11 July 2019 17:07 (four years ago) link

look i think she has to operate on the assumption that these people will do the right thing if she appeals passively to a go-between voting bloc that has always completely sided with the opposition.

omar little, Thursday, 11 July 2019 17:10 (four years ago) link

Morals are very important to Evangelical Christians so I think we should just trust that they'll make the most morally-defensible decision in any given situation. I'm sure if we point out that Donald Trump behaves in an immoral fashion they'll realize that giving him their support was a mistake.

i would slur her with an italian slur but i forgot what they all even are and i can't find my slur dictionary

j., Thursday, 11 July 2019 17:51 (four years ago) link

I presume anti-Italian prejudice (certainly a real thing midcentury) hadn't vanished by Pelosi's youth -- in the late '30s there was a major magazine profile (LIfe?) of Joe DiMaggio that literally complimented "He doesn't reek of garlic" -- but one of these things is not like the other.

1/1024 = 1/(2^10), which I guess in allele division means ten generations ago or so.

Per CNN, Trump expected to back away from census citizenship question, direct Commerce to seek data through other sources: https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/11/politics/trump-census-executive-action/index.html

mott the hoopleheads (voodoo chili), Thursday, 11 July 2019 20:11 (four years ago) link

what would have prevented everyone from just fucking lying on the census? is it a 'under pentalty of perjury' sort of thing?

also re: italians as POC: my wife has a friend who is just a few years older than us (in her 50's) and she acts all the time ike this is still a thing. She's from NY.

akm, Thursday, 11 July 2019 20:14 (four years ago) link

the point is that many people would, rather than lie, be intimidated out of filling out the census at all.
