(btw i messed up the lyric in the thread title. i think it's actually "gonna burn gonna fall down." hot either way.)

would you ask tom petty that? (tipsy mothra), Monday, 15 June 2009 02:42 (fourteen years ago) link

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Words and Guitar is a song I have in my head several times a day, so I have to vote for that.

ugh i didn't even vote!

horseshoe, Thursday, 18 June 2009 23:03 (fourteen years ago) link

"Heart Factory" should have gotten at least one vote.

Bud Huxtable (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 18 June 2009 23:05 (fourteen years ago) link

xpost haha, i didn't either. couldn't make up my mind and then forgot. i don't have a problem with the results, though. retroactively i'll toss a vote to the title track, which is a phenomenal opener (and was a phenomenal show-closer).

'jenny' should have gotten at least one vote

mookieproof, Thursday, 18 June 2009 23:07 (fourteen years ago) link

"Not What You Want" - 3:17 1
"Things You Say" - 2:56 0

would have voted for either of these

goole, Thursday, 18 June 2009 23:13 (fourteen years ago) link

call all destroyer, Thursday, 18 June 2009 23:17 (fourteen years ago) link

i had to check how far away the s-k ballot poll was a few wks ago (still too far!) based on how much i listened to them this winter

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 9 April 2013 00:05 (eleven years ago) link

can't believe this thread hasn't been revived more often

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 9 April 2013 00:06 (eleven years ago) link

still bummed "things you say" got a zero

da croupier, Tuesday, 9 April 2013 02:46 (eleven years ago) link

just total fever pitch sleater-kinney army in full effect in philly. so many buttons and badges on so many book bags.

This sounds just like the show I went to at the Troc. Lots of high school girls with tiny backpacks (since I stayed down in the all ages section, being more interesting in seeing the band up close than drinking up on the balcony).

I'm not an S-K fan per se, but they were great live, and their fans were great too. I wish I had seen them more than once. In a way I had a reverse experience from scott, since I saw them live first and then bought this CD, and ended up a bit disappointed by the CD.

For me, title track easily takes this, with One More Hour next.

Although Turn It On is sounding good too at the moment. Maybe I shouldn't have donated my copy to the Albuquerque public library, but Spotify is good enough for my purposes I think.

Tribute album coming, looking forward to finding out which song Low covered.

jenny deserved a vote

mookieproof, Friday, 8 April 2022 23:44 (two years ago) link

I seem to go against the grain on this record, my six favourite songs got a total of 3 votes in the poll. I'd've been the "Jenny" voter.

So, Courtney Barnett is on it...

D'oh! Forgot I posted that Stereogum teaser upthread.

So far, in alphabetical order, it reads like this: Big Joanie, Black Belt Eagle Scout, Courtney Barnett, Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires, the Linda Lindas, Low, Margo Price, Self Esteem, St. Vincent, Tunde Adebimpe of TV On The Radio, Tyler Cole, Wilco, and more

Dig Me In: A Dig Me Out Covers Album arrives October 21st, 2022.

We’re excited to share Courtney Barnett’s version of “Words and Guitar.” @courtneymelba

The nervous, twitchy energy is what made Words and Guitar so great, as well as the complete tonal shift to the pretty melodic passages. Courtney's cover sadly lacks both. It's just kind of... there.

Kind of weird to have a tribute album to a current band by their peers, isn't it?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 23 September 2022 23:12 (one year ago) link

Eager to hear the Low song but not really excited for the rest (+ actively dreading St. Vincent and Wilco).

Not to mention the overlapping vocals, the absence of which I think might sink a lot of these covers.

two weeks pass...

The second single of “Dig Me In: A Dig Me Out Covers Album” is here this Friday! Thank you @MissMargoPrice for your amazing rendition of Turn It On, a version which includes an instrument never before featured on an SK song (and we love it). pic.twitter.com/eAwe7ACb5P

This is kind of rad.

the Wilco song is the nadir of this one but overall it could be worse

papal hotwife (milo z), Friday, 21 October 2022 17:56 (one year ago) link

Yeah, that one sounds like the exact same arrangement, so it's basically a karaoke version.

Margot Price's track is still far and away the best one.
