Orioles have won 4 of their last 7, unbelievers

Guayaquil (eephus!), Saturday, 6 July 2019 04:14 (four years ago) link

they've also won 26 of their last 87

mookieproof, Saturday, 6 July 2019 18:46 (four years ago) link

sorry but this team is good now, i love them

Chris Davis for MVP

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Sunday, 7 July 2019 04:18 (four years ago) link

could be a real battle here -- o's are only one game behind the tigers in the win column, and detroit seems fully capable of losing all the games in hand

mookieproof, Wednesday, 17 July 2019 13:19 (four years ago) link

Don't look now but the Orioles have fallen ahead of the Tigers by percentage points in the race for the 2020 #1 draft pick

6-7 so far in July!

Guayaquil (eephus!), Saturday, 20 July 2019 13:35 (four years ago) link

Oh I’m looking, right now!

Karl Malone, Saturday, 20 July 2019 14:12 (four years ago) link

Above .500 (8-7) since 7/3.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Wednesday, 24 July 2019 15:45 (four years ago) link

I believe in the Woj

Guayaquil (eephus!), Wednesday, 24 July 2019 23:32 (four years ago) link

baseball america has been ranking farm systems since 1984; their latest update has the orioles at #8 -- the highest they've ever been

plus they'll get another high pick next year and they finally are signing international players

mookieproof, Thursday, 25 July 2019 20:08 (four years ago) link

so eager to hear about this i'm considering paying for baseball america, which i guess is the point of publicizing these rankings

Guayaquil (eephus!), Friday, 26 July 2019 15:49 (four years ago) link

yr man adley rutschman arrives in aberdeen tomorrow if you feel like driving up there

mookieproof, Friday, 26 July 2019 19:10 (four years ago) link

this team cannot be stopped

mookieproof, Saturday, 27 July 2019 02:51 (four years ago) link

are you saying they're going to do "BETTER than 62-102"?

Karl Malone, Saturday, 27 July 2019 04:59 (four years ago) link

. . . from screwing itself out of the top 2020 draft pick

and of course there are still three years left on perhaps the worst contract of all time

mookieproof, Saturday, 27 July 2019 06:29 (four years ago) link

Break up the Orioles!

Guayaquil (eephus!), Saturday, 27 July 2019 14:23 (four years ago) link

and of course there are still three years left on perhaps the worst contract of all time

the 2016-23 $31M AAV miguel cabrera extension could potentially be very bad as well

Karl Malone, Saturday, 27 July 2019 19:13 (four years ago) link

the largest contract ever, at the time (by AAV)

Karl Malone, Saturday, 27 July 2019 19:16 (four years ago) link

true, but miggy is at least a hall of famer; you could hope he'd stay healthy and maybe hit a bunch of doubles instead of homers, and you could also reward him for years of valiant service. maybe not smart, but at least understandable

davis, at that time, was heading into his age-30 season with a career .255/.330/.506 line and 14.7 bWAR. he'd just led the majors in strikeouts and was a year removed from a .196/.300/.404, 0.7 bWAR season. there was never a chance

Get out your brooms, the Mighty Baltimore Ducks are going for the 4-game (!) sweep of Los California Angels of Anaheim in the suburb of Los Angeles today.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Sunday, 28 July 2019 18:40 (four years ago) link

Also, they quietly set an MLB record over their last streak:

In Saturday’s 8-7 victory over the Los Angeles Angels, home runs from Pedro Severino and Jonathan Villar made the Orioles the first team in major league history with multiple home runs in 10 consecutive games.

Orioles won their 47th game tonight, matching last year's total with 17 still to play, largely against weak opposition. Fangraphs projects them to end up with 54-55 wins. We were too pessimistic!

Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 12 September 2019 04:24 (four years ago) link

take that, naysayers

mookieproof, Thursday, 12 September 2019 04:28 (four years ago) link

They have settled into a nice groove where every time they win they look like a good team and every time they lose it's more comical and ridiculous than depressing (this week: giving up a walk-off grand slam in the 12th to the worst team in baseball, losing 5-3 after giving up two runs on a dropped third strike the pitcher failed to cover)

Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 16 September 2019 03:41 (four years ago) link

rarely before has losing 108 games felt like such a step forward

mookieproof, Monday, 30 September 2019 00:05 (four years ago) link

O's finish better than anyone on this thread dared predict, Pythag record of 60-102, some decent talent found among the players abandoned by other teams (John Means, Hanser Alberto, Anthony Santander, etc.), a lot of fun memories (strangely many of them involving Stevie Wilkerson.) I enjoyed this!

Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 30 September 2019 22:15 (four years ago) link

The Orioles had the 2nd-worst record in MLB in 2019. But they led the league in heartfelt, handwritten ‘thank you‘ notes. In a twist on fan appreciation, some season-ticket holders are getting notes from players saying “thanks & hang in there.” The story: https://t.co/dZ8OjbkcsV
