i preordered his new record about a month ago, had no idea about anything. the 'whisper network' stuff doesn't mean much to me, but the people who have already posted stuff is enough for me.

Yeah tell that to your whole country lame fuck

whisper network usually knows about creepy dudes

yea

I’ve written about the music of K*le B*bby D*nn in the past but that stopped immediately after I heard he was committing acts of sexual misconduct, stalking women, and sending people death threats. I hope the consequences he’s experiencing now will inspire him to get proper help.

whoa hold up he was talking shit about sarah davachi????

from memory he tweeted something like 'sarah davachi has been harrassing me for years and tried to make me have sex with her in front of her boyfriend'

Br. Des Shadows (NickB), Friday, 5 July 2019 06:22 (four years ago) link

Oh man I didn’t know any of that. Literally listening to one of his albums right this minute as I clicked on this thread. I’m not seeing specific references / accusations around sexual misconduct but certainly what he said to Thomas Meluch is super shitty and despicable. At the same time he seems to be in a low place... this sucks.

I spoke to him on the phone today and I'm going to keep speaking to him.

Yes, what Nick said <3

Uptown VONC (Le Bateau Ivre), Friday, 5 July 2019 08:52 (four years ago) link

Well sheesh. Everybody is like "hope he gets the help he needs" but like regardless if he's an abusive creep or if he's an innocent victim of a stupid whisper campaign, or something more complex, (or something way simpler i.e. depressive alcoholism), "the help he needs" is going to be easier to achieve with direct communication and support, not all these public statements of distancing.

Major kudos fgti, you're a quality human being.

for sure, and i love your compassionate pragmatism here. and you're not putting yourself in an easy situation cos there's a chance you're going to get caught up in a whirlpool of shit basically, and that takes some bravery, so props (and hugs) 2 u

seven months pass...

A track from ...Infinite Sadness just came on and damn it was beautiful. But it was accompanied by a mildly disorienting tweak of shame and I wondered if anything had come of the stuff that surfaced last year?

Ngolo Cantwell (Chinaski), Thursday, 20 February 2020 13:09 (four years ago) link

It's not my place to divulge what actually happened, but Dunn isn't blameless in any way, nor does he claim to be, and he seems to be making positive changes. Infinite Sadness is a gorgeous record!

I feel grubby for asking, given this is a public forum, but there it is. Thank you for the update.

This doesn't sound good:

FYI there is an arrest warrant for him after he fled the country, skipping out on a court date for a domestic violence charge + repeated allegations of sexual assault from multiple people. As ACAB as I am this dude needs a heavy book thrown at him, DM me for more info. https://t.co/U0Mqgm7xfW

I've met Kyle in person and can confirm he is indeed a very troubled person and a creep. People like him need to be held more accountable for their actions. He's not someone you should be around or be associated with. Seriously, steer clear from him.

I have had several horrible encounters with Kyle which have involved some legal action in Canada. He seems to prey on his fans through social media, in particlar women and I want to warn them to please please stay away. He will manipulate and use people for money and places to stay. No idea where he is these days, but please stay safe.
DM if you need any help or support or further evidence.

the contrast between the way the music sounds and the tales of its creator is darkly comic

I haven't commented on this thread since it started, before news first broke, and I really should, though I've taken everything on board over time. Per beard papa (though I can't say I see the comedy now), definitely a contrast. I will say that in various emails with him -- again, before the news broke, and he reached out to me first -- he was absolutely desperate for coverage of his work, not quite near constant messaging or anything but he saw it as almost the end goal, it seemed. That may sound like many artists but I bring this up to note that he was beyond just about any other musician I can think of in that regard in my own personal experience. What it means I don't know. I have long since deleted his work from my collections and haven't been tempted to return.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 25 July 2021 16:14 (two years ago) link

yeah bad post on my part there… certainly don’t intend to make light of anyone’s harrowing experiences with the guy by saying it’s funny or anything. I just find it ironically surreal given the tranquil nature of the music itself. I guess it makes sense, though that someone in turmoil would maybe seek refuge in making as well as listening to this style of music. which also could explain why he is/was so prolific.

beard papa, Sunday, 25 July 2021 17:51 (two years ago) link

Labels, musicians, basically anybody would be taking a serious risk taking him on and working with him. He relies on his music for an income, and I feel real bad for the labels that had to cut ties with him and the ones that worked with him in the past (some of his works were triple vinyl releases, which by the way is extremely expensive and costly to put together and release). he wouldn't think twice burning bridges with someone who is a big fan of his music, and it's really really scary how many people he's just simply cut off, stalked, abused, lashed out at etc.. I've heard second hand from several people who follow him on bandcamp and have recieved very odd, very troubling, emotional blackmailing emails to buy any physical releases of his music from his BC page. He really could not care less how long you've been a fan or how much you like his music, he just wants money for it. So I plead for anyone who happens to read this thread to turn away from him if you're making plans to meet him. Just don't do it.

And with regards to what Ned said in the few posts above this one, I'm not suprised to hear him want his music covered so badly. He's extremely self centered. Which is sad to hear especially in that genre of music, you wouldn't think an arist who makes that kind of music would rely so much on prestige and money.

Josto, Sunday, 25 July 2021 22:38 (two years ago) link

I second what Josto has said. He is an unsafe individual to be around. I've had first hand experience getting the authorities involved several times and it was a really harrowing experience that has been difficult to process.
I've heard from reliable sources that multiple people have restraining orders against him and who knows what else. He is also banned from performing in multiple venues in his city due to his stalking and malicious behaviour, alot of it targeted specifically towards women.
He may be in turmoil like beard papa has stated, but that is no excuse for the abuse he has inflicted on so many people.

Just a friendly reminder to stay away from Kyle Bobby Dunn. Anyone in the Montréal area, anywhere in Canada, or any other part of the world should not make plans to meet him. Not sure where's hiding but please take these warnings seriously. He's a very unstable individual.

Josto, Wednesday, 17 November 2021 20:43 (two years ago) link

two weeks pass...

Just want to repeat Josto’s post above - please stay safe and don’t meet up with him especially if you’ve only spoken to him online.

Also, someone sent me a message as a follow up to my July post (sorry I couldn’t reply - the system wouldn’t let me without a return email).
If you are out there seeing this, please be safe and I hope you are doing ok. To answer your question, yes as a woman you should be concerned, and also avoid meeting up with him in any kind of scenario. This may sound alarmist but this is a highly unstable person who is particularly dangerous to women. Again, I’m happy to speak with anyone who is concerned, I can provide evidence if needed.
