Not as dud as the entire BART where people form a line at the future location of a yet to arrive train that blocks the entire width of the platform.

That seems similar to the experience of trying to dock a bike - or undock it- when people are lined up for the ferry.

The worst are the fsckers who stand in the doorway when people are getting on and off

calstars, Wednesday, 3 July 2019 00:28 (four years ago) link

I have an, um, soft spot for the types who sort of accelerate and sneakily jockey for position to be the first ones into the car, then decelerate once they are past the door while they size up the situation to decide where they want to sit.

There are service changes and delays on the F line while we work to remove a shopping cart from under a train at Jay St-MetroTech.

Multiple impacts of raindrops upon track

mick signals, Tuesday, 23 July 2019 03:47 (four years ago) link

Here's a key part of the report.

Congress ordered a study of why the US wastes billions by spending 5x as much per mile of subway track as every other country in the world.

The @USGAO interviewed track builders who told them that cost comparisons are hard. So they didn't do it. pic.twitter.com/9lWe68LOId

The MTA hired three firms to clear subway drains.
Two donated to Cuomo’s campaign during the same period, including a fundraiser at a luxury suite at a Mets game.

We look at the governor’s donations from MTA contractors with @jdavidgoodman @agustin_NYT https://t.co/sGgPrnWpL3

I’ll have more from this story later but from what I’ve been told, this denial by the governor is at best half-true and may be completely untrue in many cases. pic.twitter.com/oSEx3eJe2w

mookieproof, Thursday, 3 October 2019 15:43 (four years ago) link

i switched back to a backpack abt five years ago on physical therapist's orders. but they also told me i should have no more than seven pounds of stuff in there... so once i throw in my planner, pen, camera, maybe a cell charger and a hoodie for if i'm going to some ice-cold interior, i'm pretty much done. on days when i'm teaching, i have my tablet and a little notepad and i can feel the extra weight in my lower back. and i still am hyperconscious of taking up train space.

That is so messed up. Although easily could be taken out with baseball bats.

There is a recent video of a woman in chile climbing up a tall pole and disabling a street surveillance camera and then the crowd below her catches her. It's great.

Someone didn’t even do a rough cost-benefit analysis on this. It costs between $50,000,000 and $75,000,000 a year to pay for 500 extra officers. I doubt they will prevent 20,000,000 additional incidents of fare evasion to break even...
