I have been involved in and observed politics for a long time. Governor Palin is a truly unique national figure. She is down to earth, personable, and smart as hell. That's right. She has been on the national scene for a little over a month, she has been campaigning everywhere, she has had to bone up on all kinds of national issues, and she has shown class throughout. Too often too many are persuaded by the mainstream media's opinion and react to that. This should be another lesson in that regard. As for some of her populist views, she cannot openly campaign against the positions of her presidential running mate. She is the bright light in this campaign from my perspective.

I don't remember the particular question but the most egregious case of not answering the question had to be where the question was about bankrupcy reform and she said "my answer is no" and then starting talking about oil? wtf?

yeah but she actually said "and since that was such a short answer, let me adress energy..."

I'd love to be able to get away with that during an exam.

People always used to pronounce the name of former NBA player Mahmoud Abdul Rauf with that "k" sound, too.

Oh, my mom still assured me that "we're (dad + her) voting Democrats, i don't like what she says," but that "she looked good and spoke well." This is wrong, by the way.

It's not as if she answered any of the questions in any depth; she seemed primarily to give a one sentence answer and then launch into the pre-programmed response she's been prepping for the past two weeks.

This was most ugly and glaring when she was asked if lack of experience isn't her biggest failing, what her true Achilles heel was and she responded to the question by talking about how her Experience Matters. To be fair she produced a good strong speech there, really well written and delivered, but it didn't even come close to addressing the question! She heard "not experienced" and clicked play on the tape with a big ol' smile that read "ah, I know this one!" As an ex-theater major (god help me), that's the exact type of satisfaction I used to see on the faces of freshmen with a dash of talent who would just beam with the enjoyment of knowing all the words. Biden, on the other hand, heard the question and was really nimble about turning a positive to a negative in an eloquent turn of a phrase about how he had to learn not to accept Supreme Court Justices based solely on their competence.

The bar was so low that she cleared it easily; heaven save us from low expectations.
