ya i love that one too. fucking album.

words and guitar is a song i want to live inside--corin sounds so derangedly ecstatic.

Top 5 Dig Me Out moments:

1. Janet Weiss' (what a name!) gargantuan drum roll (after several subtle, anticipatory drum rolls - a key influence on "The Thong Song"?) at 1:17 before the second round of "take take the noise in my head" which then rocks out inhumanly.

2. The atomic drop at very beginning of the next song, "It's Enough," telling us "no, no, we won't stop a-rockin!"

3. "I make rock n roll" at the end of "It's Enough."

4. "Oh, you've got the darkest eyes." (Remember that one?)

5. The short "kick it out kick it in" break at 1:19 in "The Drama You've Been Craving" where they're just loving their sound.

So "Words and Guitar" very easily for me. The chutzpah of lesbians, bisexuals, etc. making a claim on the universality of music is enough to pummel you into the ground. Dig me out, indeed.

P.S. How come the chorus to "Heart Factory" is missing in the lyric sheet?

'buy her candy' seems to be halfway to having invented the riff for 'one beat'. which is kind of weird. i like it anyway.

"One More Hour" is the last song they ever played, and Corin could barely sing the words in the chorus. ;_;

I'll always say "Turn It On" because it's so intense, but I could throw a dart at the tray sleeve and odds are I'd hit a stone-cold classic.

love this album. one of the best of the 90's, and imo the best S-K album. every track is great, but I'm going with "One More Hour".

Boy, this is a real throw-a-dart-and-pick-one poll. I most recently heard "Drama," so it's fresh in my head and easy to pick, but everything else is just SO SO GREAT.

A Godlike, unimpeachable mega super duper classic. Can't say enough good things about it.

Turn It On

now i'm leaning toward "it's enough," on general under-2-minute-songs-rule principle.

or maybe i should go for "little babies" so that the sort-of single gets at least a vote.

this is the one album i loved by them. one of those perfect moments in time where i bought this and totally high on it went and saw them live and they totally surpassed any expectations i might have had before seeing them. just total fever pitch sleater-kinney army in full effect in philly. so many buttons and badges on so many book bags. i have never felt taller. and i grew up going to straightedge hardcore shows in connecticut, where the average height was five foot one, so that's saying something.

one of those shows where you think a band should/could rule the world.

probably their best album, plus this has some killer "let's just keep repeating the same riff/words but make them kick more and more and more ass every single time" song endings

haven't felt the urge to play this in years but i'd probably go "words and guitar". or maybe "dance song '97". can't recall some of these off the top of my head.

I remember how excited I was hearing "Turn It On" for the first time. It took me a while to get past it on the album. There's other great stuff on here, but that's that one I have to vote for.

xpost haha, i didn't either. couldn't make up my mind and then forgot. i don't have a problem with the results, though. retroactively i'll toss a vote to the title track, which is a phenomenal opener (and was a phenomenal show-closer).

This sounds just like the show I went to at the Troc. Lots of high school girls with tiny backpacks (since I stayed down in the all ages section, being more interesting in seeing the band up close than drinking up on the balcony).

I'm not an S-K fan per se, but they were great live, and their fans were great too. I wish I had seen them more than once. In a way I had a reverse experience from scott, since I saw them live first and then bought this CD, and ended up a bit disappointed by the CD.

For me, title track easily takes this, with One More Hour next.

Although Turn It On is sounding good too at the moment. Maybe I shouldn't have donated my copy to the Albuquerque public library, but Spotify is good enough for my purposes I think.

The nervous, twitchy energy is what made Words and Guitar so great, as well as the complete tonal shift to the pretty melodic passages. Courtney's cover sadly lacks both. It's just kind of... there.

Eager to hear the Low song but not really excited for the rest (+ actively dreading St. Vincent and Wilco).

Yeah, that one sounds like the exact same arrangement, so it's basically a karaoke version.

Margot Price's track is still far and away the best one.
