Afghanistan cruelly doing their best to help England here

Afghanistan in danger of blowing it here.

Pakistan likewise

6! balance shifts heavy to Pakistan now

need 6 from the last over, Afghanistan just going to fall short again

Blew it again.
― Orpheus Knutt (Tom D.), Saturday, 29 June 2019 16:53 (four years ago) link
cruel. great finish to a match.
― Rory end to the lowenbrow (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 29 June 2019 16:54 (four years ago) link
It was. That expensive over when Imad racked up about 16 killed them off.
The match on Friday should be lit.

Wondering what the worst example of fixing is: Gulbadin bringing himself on vs Pakistan, Dhoni and Jadhav yesterday or the WI picking Shannon Gabriel in any ODI ever
― imago, Monday, 1 July 2019 10:03 (four years ago) link
LOL Gulbadin, that was a shocker.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens if Bangladesh win the toss today. If Bangladesh bat first, Pakistan can’t qualify, if Pakistan bat first they’re probably going to have to aim for a target of about 600 - so it’ll potentially either be a run-fest or an extremely rancorous dead rubber based on the flip of a coin.
― ShariVari, Friday, 5 July 2019 06:25 (four years ago) link
Yeah, the run rate system seems a bit fucked up. They have to win by 320 runs or something don't they (batting first)?
Likely to finish level on points with a team they beat yet don't go through.
― groovypanda, Friday, 5 July 2019 07:40 (four years ago) link
316 to be exact, yep.
If they win, they'll finish one point below England - but would have potentially been level had the match with Sri Lanka not been rained off.
― ShariVari, Friday, 5 July 2019 07:47 (four years ago) link
I fancy Bangladesh to win today
― Captain ACAB (Neil S), Friday, 5 July 2019 08:05 (four years ago) link
Depends how much money's on them.
― Orpheus Knutt (Tom D.), Friday, 5 July 2019 08:28 (four years ago) link
harsh, Shakib has been player of the tournament
― Captain ACAB (Neil S), Friday, 5 July 2019 08:31 (four years ago) link
Coin toss and it’s...Pakistan!
― ShariVari, Friday, 5 July 2019 09:02 (four years ago) link
Bangladesh bowling has been tight and Pakistan are chasing crazy singles already. There’s going to be half a dozen run-outs.
― ShariVari, Friday, 5 July 2019 09:45 (four years ago) link
Astonishing c&b there.
Pakistan looked in complete control about an hour ago but it has all gone sideways since Imam kicked his own wicket.
― ShariVari, Friday, 5 July 2019 13:06 (four years ago) link
Pakistan have at least passed the threshold where they can theoretically qualify (308, bowling Bangladesh out for 0).
― Michael Jones, Friday, 5 July 2019 13:18 (four years ago) link
Ok, I think they have to bowl them out for 6. Maybe 7. I didn't go to enough decimal places to be sure :)
― Michael Jones, Friday, 5 July 2019 13:25 (four years ago) link
316 was the threshold I think. Pakistan scored... 315.
― Captain ACAB (Neil S), Friday, 5 July 2019 13:37 (four years ago) link
Nah they had to win by 316 if they scored 400 iirc
― imago, Friday, 5 July 2019 13:42 (four years ago) link
Yeah, 308 was the absolute minimum. The more they scored, the greater the margin of victory required to still overturn the NRR deficit. 308 vs 0 works, as does 350 vs 38, 400 vs 84, 450 vs 129, etc.
And... they're out. Bangladesh are 8/0.
― Michael Jones, Friday, 5 July 2019 14:01 (four years ago) link
gotcha, thanks. NRR is obviously not fit for purpose, well done ICC as ever
― Captain ACAB (Neil S), Friday, 5 July 2019 14:08 (four years ago) link
Bangladesh are a tough team to score quickly against on wicket like this. Mehidy bowled brilliantly - with an economy of 3.00 - five of which were misfields, all at about 45 mph. It wasn’t until Babar started swinging they were able to get past four an over.
Amir’s pace is giving Bangladesh huge opportunities for boundaries but he already has Soumya out.
― ShariVari, Friday, 5 July 2019 14:25 (four years ago) link
My god, Shaheen is something else. 25/5. Absolutely terrifying.
― ShariVari, Friday, 5 July 2019 16:50 (four years ago) link
Make that 35/6.

England play Australia in the semi.
Had Carey managed to stay in, I think Australia would have won. Great performance from South Africa.

Via the Guardian:
This just in from Andy Bull, our man at Old Trafford. It looks to me like good news for New Zealand, who stand to benefit from any resumption today:“The ICC are very keen to get this game done today if they can. Play can go on as late as 10pm tonight, because they’ve added a two-hour extension to the playing hours for the semi-finals. They need to start play by 8ish, but he rain is supposed to stop around 6 or 7 so I think we’ll get a game in. If India’s innings is reduced to 20 overs, they’ll need to chase 148. The target’s high, because New Zealand kept so many wickets in hand.”
