Didn’t think it was! Just giving my blessing to Cambridge-bash without feeling the need for jk emojis 😉

two weeks pass...

Hello hello I am here to organize the damn thing.

A smol bird with a brogue told me the visitors will be staying near canary wharf. I don’t know that this matters in terms of where we meet but maybe it does?

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 9 July 2019 20:54 (four years ago) link

Ian McKellen owns a cool pub between there and Wapping. Right on the river.

suzy, Tuesday, 9 July 2019 21:08 (four years ago) link

I love The Grapes but it's pretty small...

Matt DC, Tuesday, 9 July 2019 21:23 (four years ago) link

smol (avg height, chubby tbh) bird (more hamster with a glare tbh) with a brogue (only when excited but even then its prob more of a squall) was on to enbb since to suggest that soho-ish might work as we're lunchin around there and moochin afterwards and we might as well be earlyish starting given a long day might mean bed calls us sooner than eg fizzles might have made you to expect

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Tuesday, 9 July 2019 22:22 (four years ago) link

How much time do you want to spend mooching around Soho? If you're lunching late (or shopping) it should be fine but otherwise that's a lot of time in a relatively small area.

London will have emptied out a bit by then but even then Soho on a Friday can be on the hectic side. There's always hardy ILX perennials the Glasshouse Stores or the Blue Posts Newman Street but only if neither of you particularly mind about drinking decent beer and certainly not if you're drinking wine.

More generally anywhere reasonably central on the Jubilee Line should be pretty easy for you.

Bit late to the party here. When is this happening? Remote chance I might be able to make it

frame casual (dog latin), Wednesday, 10 July 2019 08:12 (four years ago) link

happy to hear what would work best, i mean we're going to get home easily enough id have thought

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Wednesday, 10 July 2019 08:13 (four years ago) link

Fizzles, Friday, 12 July 2019 18:23 (four years ago) link

fri 2nd august if the 2nd august is a fri

destination open for ideas tbh

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Friday, 12 July 2019 18:48 (four years ago) link

First Friday after payday is usually a session in my work, so apologies in advance if I turn up at 10.30 pished.

Orpheus Knutt (Tom D.), Friday, 12 July 2019 18:54 (four years ago) link

There may be a huge schedule conflict as an OG ILXOR is leaving his job after 20+ years and that’s the night of the leaving do.

suzy, Friday, 12 July 2019 20:46 (four years ago) link

feckit!

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Friday, 12 July 2019 21:13 (four years ago) link

Yes, I am leaving my work after 21 years on the 2nd August. Leaving drinks in SOAS Bar (last official night I am a licensee there) - I'd happily extend the invite to FAPpers - though I'd understand it if would feel weird.

Pete, Saturday, 13 July 2019 10:07 (four years ago) link

let's cross the streams!

(in order to be convenient for me)

mark s, Saturday, 13 July 2019 10:15 (four years ago) link

Ah darn it. Between working from home that day and a 7:30am train Saturday I don’t think I can make it.

Michael Jones, Saturday, 13 July 2019 10:30 (four years ago) link

So it's FAP 2nd August?

It's been so long, I wouldn't mind making it Glasshouse Stores for old times' sake.

the pinefox, Saturday, 13 July 2019 11:16 (four years ago) link

double FAP and no backsies*

*where backsies = traipsing from one venue to another

mark s, Saturday, 13 July 2019 11:19 (four years ago) link

delighted to say i'm free for this, and will be coming off the back of a substantial do the night before so will be hungover and ready for more. (cut to wan figure in corner sipping elderflower cordial)

Fizzles, Saturday, 13 July 2019 11:28 (four years ago) link

you couldn't be wan if you tried! the halest of fellows

imago, Saturday, 13 July 2019 11:35 (four years ago) link

I might suggest doing this in Bloomsbury instead of Soho - close enough for Mr and Mrs Deems but also helpful for people who want to attend both events.

The pubs will be less mental as well, especially out of term time.

the revenges of alcohol are fierce and sometimes unassuageable.

bloomsbury a good idea. never quite sure about pubs round there. the lamb's more holborn-ish I guess.

Fizzles, Saturday, 13 July 2019 12:21 (four years ago) link

i half-remember the plough is cancelled for acting the arsehole to some disabled ppl drinking there a couple months ago?

mark s, Saturday, 13 July 2019 12:27 (four years ago) link

yes, a woman with MS.

Fizzles, Saturday, 13 July 2019 12:30 (four years ago) link

The Lamb has an upstairs now which (as long as it isn't booked out) makes it a lot more FAP friendly.

Matt DC, Saturday, 13 July 2019 12:30 (four years ago) link

friday evening tho, what are the odds. and you’re right it’s pretty cramped for that sort of thing otherwise (tho i like it)

Fizzles, Saturday, 13 July 2019 12:32 (four years ago) link

Excellent. Flying out the day after for a long weekend in Berlin so this is perfect timing.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 13 July 2019 13:36 (four years ago) link

let me know what ye decide and happy to take the consensus as lead

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Saturday, 13 July 2019 14:05 (four years ago) link

We decided to hold it in east anglia in the pub round the corner from my flat

the good news about the silence following that is we'll all hear it when you drop us a pin

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Saturday, 13 July 2019 14:27 (four years ago) link

lmao

shhh / let peaceful like things (wins), Saturday, 13 July 2019 14:40 (four years ago) link

Bloomsbury sounds like a plan. Will have a look online for locations but any recs welcome, obv.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Saturday, 20 July 2019 08:31 (four years ago) link

im not sure im a big fan of the idea of asking ppl to choose between a fellas goin away party and having a pint with a known rogue tbh.

we'll be back in london regular enough like

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Saturday, 20 July 2019 08:50 (four years ago) link

Depends where he's going.

Arthur Lowe & Love (Tom D.), Saturday, 20 July 2019 09:11 (four years ago) link

It's not a going-away party, it'll be fine.

Matt DC, Saturday, 20 July 2019 09:38 (four years ago) link

Ok someone has to know this area better than I do. Suggestions?

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 29 July 2019 10:05 (four years ago) link

What time is this all kicking off, do we think?

imago, Monday, 29 July 2019 11:29 (four years ago) link

ex-ilxor pete's SOAS retirement thing (= the rival event)* starts at 4

*or potential double-event :D

mark s, Monday, 29 July 2019 11:42 (four years ago) link

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Monday, 29 July 2019 12:13 (four years ago) link

bloomsbury i could potentially do.

plax (ico), Monday, 29 July 2019 12:33 (four years ago) link

Read that as ex-ilxor pete's SAS retirement and thought either WOOF or OOF.

Arthur Lowe & Love (Tom D.), Monday, 29 July 2019 12:34 (four years ago) link

Opening gambit - The College Arms on Store Street, just off Tottenham Court Road. This has serviced a reasonable-sized gathering pretty well in the past although I can't remember if booking ahead was required.

Matt DC, Monday, 29 July 2019 12:52 (four years ago) link

Plax!! :)

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 29 July 2019 13:24 (four years ago) link

How about Fitzroy Tavern, other side of TCR?

the pinefox, Monday, 29 July 2019 13:40 (four years ago) link

In my experience the Fitzroy is always unpleasantly busy on a Friday.

Matt DC, Monday, 29 July 2019 13:58 (four years ago) link

College Arms is fine imo. Wouldn't go near Charlotte Street - wot Matt DC said.

Fizzles, Monday, 29 July 2019 18:47 (four years ago) link

bring back that glasshouse stores beat imo. they've even got the bar billiards working again
