Being expelled from Labour has reduced Alastair Campbell to publishing bizarre Tory fic on twitter

I think @RoryStewartUK should remove another item of clothing ... maybe someone else’s tie - this thing is going nowhere

Boris talking about his Turkish gramps to hand-wave away hundreds of his racist comments.

fucking nerve of Gove to criticise Trump after turning up in a kilt to welcome the cunt a few weeks back.

calzino, Tuesday, 18 June 2019 19:50 (four years ago) link

Mickey O'Gove in a kilt?

Orpheus Knutt (Tom D.), Tuesday, 18 June 2019 19:55 (four years ago) link

Lol @ Gove using a question on islamophobia to attack Corbyn over AS, and for Maitlis to allow and nod.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 18 June 2019 20:00 (four years ago) link

Yes I watched five mins of this do help me god

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 18 June 2019 20:00 (four years ago) link

Only caught the very end but the Scottish child asking about climate change who said she wasn’t impressed by any of them was clearly the best

just heard it in the background on the radio while doing other things, but heard enough to zone out and ignore most of it.

say what you will about Michael Gove but he absolutely DESTROYED the others with this response pic.twitter.com/ECCU4FeO6Y

It was astonishingly awful that. James from Oxford wins the award for being the shittest of the whole thing, mind

stet, Tuesday, 18 June 2019 20:21 (four years ago) link

Basically the wall of gammon turned into a single caricature, Voltron-style

Oy McVey (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 18 June 2019 20:45 (four years ago) link

profoundly cursed screen name xp

I was avoiding the whole thing but I had to watch some clips just to make sure "James from Oxford" wasn't any of my coworkers (or my Brexity former driving instructor) and now it's eating away at my few remaining brain cells aaarghh

a passing spacecadet, Tuesday, 18 June 2019 20:59 (four years ago) link

lol I just saw this

Theresa May has just voted. Asked who for she yells back: "As I said last week, none of your business!"

If the rest of the Tory leadership election is going to be like this I think Jeremy Corbyn is going to win.

Rory’s got the only support that matters lads

No, London @EveningStandard IG1 postcode is definitely not Barking. It is Ilford South. And I would be delighted to invite my friend Rory to my constituency. pic.twitter.com/ukaIbNXgfi

Johnson's rivals aren't using the Ratcliffe case at all are they?

There is a contest but no scrutiny so far.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 19 June 2019 12:43 (four years ago) link

If they actually pointed out any of the bad things he's done then they wouldn't have any chance of being in his cabinet

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 19 June 2019 12:47 (four years ago) link

And it would really damage him from the start.

But that's the thing one thinks it would come out in a GE. Maybe Trump going on to win has blinded ppl.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 19 June 2019 12:52 (four years ago) link

She’s not white, the general public didn’t give a fuck before and they won’t now.

govussy blues (gyac), Wednesday, 19 June 2019 13:01 (four years ago) link

Further filigree would complicate going to war!

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 19 June 2019 13:07 (four years ago) link

Whoever wins is going to end up having to hand over £450m to a country they just accused of trying to start WW3, one way or another, and i'd guess they don't want that to be perceived as linked to the case or a Tory problem.

ShariVari, Wednesday, 19 June 2019 13:07 (four years ago) link

nick cohen tweet, so pinch of salt

Talked to a Tory MP last night who was backing Johnson
"Do you think he'd be any good as PM"
"No"
"What on earth will he do about Brexit"?
"No one knows"
"Why do you want him, then?"
"He's the best hope we've got"
"By 'we" you don't mean Britain do you?"
"No the party, of course"

I think I see in this arsehole what others see in MLC:

I’m in position outside the committee room where Tory MPs will be voting. Ten mins until it starts. Andrew Rosindell is ready to take the names of MPs as they come in. He is wearing a Back Boris badge

It's more about being clumsy, and the consequences and to whom. Maybe ppl won't care in this case but they might elsewhere.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 19 June 2019 15:39 (four years ago) link

xp we're gonna die etc etc

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 19 June 2019 15:41 (four years ago) link

Rory Stewart he “certainly hopes” he’s won Southend MP David Amess by offering to make his town a city. And he offers to do the same for other Tory MPs. “More towns, definitely definitely. Anyone who wants to vote for me... anyone can be a city.”

— Dan Bloom (@danbloom1) June 19, 2019

tbf I am not sure the candidates are any less obnoxiously whimsical.

ShariVari, Wednesday, 19 June 2019 15:53 (four years ago) link

but doesn't city status open up towns to more grants and funding etc?

calzino, Wednesday, 19 June 2019 15:57 (four years ago) link

My god the desperation to hold this worst of all jobs is quite something.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 19 June 2019 16:00 (four years ago) link

Some of it (not Stewart) is probably more looking to get closest to the job, nab a cabinet position, then judge the right time to resign when it all catches fire.

Back here again in a few months.

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 19 June 2019 16:05 (four years ago) link

but doesn't city status open up towns to more grants and funding etc?

I don’t think so, it’s status and bragging rights more than anything else.

My town was a city for 1300 years and messed up the paperwork to lose it in the late 90s. It took them four years to notice.

ShariVari, Wednesday, 19 June 2019 16:07 (four years ago) link

Owen Bennett is the guy who’s writing a book about Gove and brags about it, iirc?

govussy blues (gyac), Wednesday, 19 June 2019 16:14 (four years ago) link

strong testament to the human capacity for optimism imo
