The last track has a mellow Parson Sound/VU/Japanese psych sound that is excellent

slightly surprised by the lack of horns but still pretty sublime really. I guess those parts are taken over by the Indian string things here. Did Alice move away from horns at a certain point or something

Alec Palao's best of the 60s recordings by th eall girl band from SF. Garagey with some long somewhat jammed out tracks and some shorter acapella stuff. Maybe not the greatest band on the ballroom scene but interesting anyway. I like this, got some good stuff on.
They didn't get a deal together despite a few offers, then felt they weren't in a position to tour since some of them had just become mothers. Which is pretty sad. Finally got a first studio lp out a couple of years ago.
I listened to a Deeper digs in Rock History podcast on them a few weeks ago which got me interested in hearing this. So now i finally have a copy after meaning to get it when it came out.

pretty sure this is the only seventies era stivell i'd not heard before: some of the tracks on here probably the proggiest he ever got... also comes with a neat poster

i picked up toy love's 1980 live album and it rules

Karl Malone, Sunday, 14 July 2019 23:26 (four years ago) link

i've never heard all of their sole full length album, but the live 80 versions are much better than their every album counterpart that i've heard. don't make the mistake of youtubing them because you'll just get all the lame album versions of all the songs

gotta be careful out there, on youtube

Man i always try with the duul every few years and just can’t hang with the vocals (pvmic). I always just end up wanting to listen to Jefferson Airplane for some reason.

I’ve been soooo into this lately, might’ve voted for it in the ambient poll:

yesterday i purchased:

jon hassell: power spot (so excellent)
toy love: live at the gluepot, 1980 (only listened to half, but excellent so far. early kiwi punk, members later going on to form bats/tall dwarfs
tangerine dream: zeit (a top 40 ilx ambient album of all time, you bet your ass it's good. i snagged a very, very clean original copy too)
david crosby: if i could only remember my name (if i could only remember i already had a copy of this, dammit)

(ps brimstead i am loving this komachi. Sento [Pt.II] is hitting the spot)
