Archers performance isn’t even the worst part of it!

at least meadows and glasgow have had minor injuries that will *probably* keep them from winning major awards

brian reynolds looks ok??

na (NA), Thursday, 13 June 2019 22:00 (one month ago) link

Meadows looks right back on track. Not sure about awards tho (all star yes, maybe silver slugger).

There is plenty of season left for this number to get back to what you usually might see, but the Reds Pythagorean record on Baseball Reference is right now pretty wacky.

Pythagorean (37-31)
Actual (30-38)

Marty Brennamen was pretty fun today driving home listening to the Reds comeback. You could tell he was pretty disgusted like 'yep the Reds are going to lose again' especially after Barnhart and Votto striking out on seven pitches was going to strand the opening double by Peraza.

Then you had the couple singles by Senzel and Winker and the game was over with the game won. Marty seemed genuinely surprised by the turnabout and was actually laughing.

Reds sweeping the Astros is also par for the course for this oddball club.

i too am open to adding a controllable hitter

The @Reds, who rank 3rd in @MLB in team ERA, have the ingredients for a second-half run at a playoff spot, as one NL Central observer said to me this week. The Reds’ front office is open to adding a controllable hitter at the deadline, source says. @MLBNetwork

This was a pretty fun play from last night. It looked like Cain was taking a weird angle to go get the ball but he played the carom perfect and what a throw which led to the ugliest slide that actually worked you might see all year. Jesse Winker runs like a dad playing softball.

earlnash, Friday, 21 June 2019 09:44 (one month ago) link

I'd think having a game where you get hit by a pitch three times in the same game is probably more rare than hitting three home runs in game, Derek Dietrich has accomplished both this season.

earlnash, Saturday, 22 June 2019 13:39 (one month ago) link

this is by far the most interesting division race in baseball

brewers, cubs, or cardinals could all be in 1st by this evening, depending on how the games go, and the reds are going to be a part of that race soon, especially if they are trade deadline buyers.

i will never make a typo ever again (Karl Malone), Saturday, 22 June 2019 15:52 (one month ago) link

Make that 6 HBPs in a 3 game series so far for Derek Dietrich, which I guess is some sort of record.
I guess the Brewers don't like the swag.

no judgements, bc i'm sure divorcing your spouse when you've been married for more than a decade and have kids is tough, but it still seems weird to me that zobrist is apparently missing almost the entire season

na (NA), Tuesday, 25 June 2019 19:13 (three weeks ago) link

it's really strange, i just wonder if there's something really fucked up happening there.

omar little, Tuesday, 25 June 2019 19:15 (three weeks ago) link

makes me wonder if he's going to come back at all, dude is 38. would be a sad way to leave the game though.

na (NA), Tuesday, 25 June 2019 19:18 (three weeks ago) link

yes but he nearly had a 4 WAR season last year, dude is aging pretty well. his power is way down this year but he's barely played so who knows. this situation is indeed very odd...baseball players barely take a game off for the birth of their own children

frogbs, Tuesday, 25 June 2019 19:23 (three weeks ago) link

i can barely send an email when my spouse is really mad at me, i can understand not being able to concentrate on a slider when going through a messy divorce.

but yeah, it is true that players don't tend to take off much time for such things

i will never make a typo ever again (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 25 June 2019 19:24 (three weeks ago) link

Whoa, knowing nothing about this (and I know it's 2019 and all) but I was reading up and was not prepared for HER being the cheater... That's a huge buck of the old MLB stereotype.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Tuesday, 25 June 2019 20:21 (three weeks ago) link

lol KM. Plenty to hate when they get together and have a testosterone-spraying contest like last night. Josh Donaldson started that shit and didn't get any of the heat for it. God knows what'll pop off when McCann catches instead of Flowers.

Manfred Hemming-Hawing (WmC), Tuesday, 25 June 2019 20:40 (three weeks ago) link

i only saw clips so i couldn't tell what set contreras off. was he mad that tyler flowers actually knows how to frame pitches?

na (NA), Tuesday, 25 June 2019 20:41 (three weeks ago) link

I think that's what it boils down to. He said he didn't like Flowers butting in with comments while he was having words with the ump.

Puig made a helluva game-winning baserunning play just now

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 3 July 2019 02:34 (two weeks ago) link

yeah that was a weird way to lose. looked like a beer league softball play.

frogbs, Wednesday, 3 July 2019 02:37 (two weeks ago) link

Puig has had a couple of crazy games against the Brewers on the basepaths.

The one play earlier in the game when Puig was going into second and the throw was on time but Arcia wanted NOTHING to do going in hard to tag him.

Reds are kind of in a put up or shut up position on this season. They seem by the numbers to be perhaps better than their record and possibly capable of making a move, but they seem to not be able to get past 3 or 4 below .500. Offense seems to be coming together just as the bullpen is starting to fall apart.

earlnash, Thursday, 4 July 2019 02:28 (two weeks ago) link

two yadi related things:

- the cardinals broadcaster referred to him as "the hall of famer" earlier in tonight's game
- he is having an awful season. his plate discipline is awful (3.3% BB%), which means his OBP is awful (.288), his power is non-existent (.109 ISO), which all means his OBP is unplayable (.658)

i will never make a typo ever again (Karl Malone), Thursday, 4 July 2019 04:26 (two weeks ago) link

Is this the correct "Cubs Hate" thread?

Amazing. Todd Ricketts, Cubs co-owner & RNC finance chair, apparently failed to tell @AssessorCook that he tore down his old house & built a bigger one there (& the old Assessor never checked it out). He’s effectively dodged thousands in prop. taxes since https://t.co/VNKi1CtJJj
