i don't really understand the upside in that for the warriors

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 12 June 2019 16:52 (four years ago) link

you'd have to really strongly believe that he was an achilles outlier which he very well may be but idk man

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 12 June 2019 16:53 (four years ago) link

Not sure about Durant and GS, really feel like he’s been ready to move on and this injury might just be the nail in the coffin. the likelihood also depends on what was happening behind the scenes leading up to game 5. Anyway this injury really sucks.

omar little, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 16:53 (four years ago) link

yeah the third rail that nobody really knows is what his feelings are regarding the organization and his injury

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 12 June 2019 16:56 (four years ago) link

his injury timeline whenever that comes out will change a lot of plans. if fully torn i think his best bet would be to stay with the dubs. they can offer him the most (+ 5 years) and he can ease back in at his own pace with a familiar system with less pressure and a fanbase who love him. i dont see why he would not take maximum years possible, whoever he decides to sign with. warriors would have to retool on wing depth and give up on filling the roster with random centers. bring looney back tho. in 4 years all the main dudes would be 33-35 and that would be fine to keep rolling it back until then.

big city slam (Spottie), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 16:58 (four years ago) link

it's financially risky but i wonder if he would thinking about opting in, sitting out the year to rehab, and then re-entering free agency in 2020.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:14 (four years ago) link

Opting in is the worst-case scenario and also very likely unless they extend him, I think.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:16 (four years ago) link

opting in and not playing at all wld be pretty funny

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:18 (four years ago) link

I also wouldn't put it past KD to just leave it on the table and rehab on his own but that would be a truly insane decision.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:23 (four years ago) link

if he does that frankly i gotta tip my cap

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:24 (four years ago) link

it's a 12-month injury for some guys so it's not only funny, it's realistic!

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:31 (four years ago) link

yup

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:31 (four years ago) link

a continuous rehab for one full season and two offseasons would probably be super beneficial

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:32 (four years ago) link

assuming he's out all 2020 it's kind of nuts that any team would offer him a big contract right now, even though I'm sure he'll easily get one. I can't think of a comparable situation at the moment

frogbs, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:34 (four years ago) link

guess the question is if he wants to play for any of the teams that wld be willing to put that deal on the table

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:37 (four years ago) link

why do they not have news

Steve Kerr: "We don't have any news on Kevin (Durant). I guess there's some speculation out there on what's going on. But we have no news. As soon as we have updates, we'll let you know."

pretty strange. you usually know the morning after.

big city slam (Spottie), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 19:45 (four years ago) link

wonder if he just peaced the f out

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 19:50 (four years ago) link

they went to NY that's the last anyone's heard i think. probably seeking multiple opinions i would guess. the fatc its taken this long gives me some hope its not a complete tear but thats probobaly just wishful thinking

big city slam (Spottie), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 19:54 (four years ago) link

Celtics and Lakers are engaged in trade talks with New Orleans on All-NBA star Anthony Davis, league sources tell me, @ZachLowe_NBA, @ramonashelburne and @WindhorstESPN. Lakers No. 4 pick has been discussed as trade chip to help Pels acquire high-level player in multi-team deals.

I don't think KD will opt in. Everybody knows that there are more teams out there with oodles of cap space than there are actual first-tier players to spend it on. Whoever ends up striking out on building a super team is going to be more than happy to pay KD $40+ million per year. I do agree that whoever ends up with Kyrie or Kawhi or AD if it's a team that thinks they can keep him, probably wouldn't be jumping to pair that guy with Durant now.

not sure this is plausible, but it would be cool to see New Orleans hold onto AD, basically force him to give it a go with Zion next year, then if he walks after 19-20, sign a (hopefully) recovered KD to pair with the thicc boy.

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 20:35 (four years ago) link

dont think id want to be the team that maxes kd

micah, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 21:47 (four years ago) link

dubs are capped out regardless until the end of the Splash/Dray era and wouldn't be able to replace him with anything above the MLE so disregarding what it would cost Lacob in luxury taxes it's really their best move in fielding a competitive team

Fetchboy, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 22:06 (four years ago) link

would it be possible for GS to sign him to a long extension, but pay him like league minimum next year? that might give them a chance to sign a decent FA and still guarantee KD years and money and aging out with the rest of the core. don't know if KD would want to do that tho

k3vin k., Wednesday, 12 June 2019 22:09 (four years ago) link

If I'm KD, I'm not signing anywhere unless I like their medical staff a lot.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 22:11 (four years ago) link

xp i believe there are controls in place on raises/declines in contracts to prevent that type of thing.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 22:12 (four years ago) link

Regardless of whether they supermax KD or he signs with another team the dubs are capped out so have only the MLE and vet minimums. His contract or lack of has no bearing on their free agency options, just on Lacob's wallet.

Fetchboy, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 22:17 (four years ago) link

you can back load the deal but only so much. but it doesnt matter any more like fetchboy says they are capped out either way. altho next year i think insurance would pay for his salary?

big city slam (Spottie), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 22:21 (four years ago) link

honestly better off frontloading the deal so when that quadruple repeater repeater repeater or w/e tax hits in a few seasons it softens the blow by a few less tens of millions lol

big city slam (Spottie), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 22:23 (four years ago) link

best scenario for the dubs wld prob be to sign n trade kd for some dece young rotation players

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 22:31 (four years ago) link

dont see that happening now

big city slam (Spottie), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 22:46 (four years ago) link

the dubs need to do a rethink of their roster. not that I'd mind it terribly if the dubs got worse.

A is for (Aimless), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 22:51 (four years ago) link

Curry's the only guy on the books for 2020/2021 so they certainly have options.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 22:56 (four years ago) link

Woj says KD's injury "will" keep him out the entire 2019-20 season. Some players have made it back in the 8-9 month range, like Wes Matthews, Kobe, Rudy Gay. So I'm surprised a return next year is already being ruled out. https://t.co/NMhYEIEMZC

I like the idea of taking the pressure off him to rush back

big city slam (Spottie), Thursday, 13 June 2019 01:55 (four years ago) link

8 months is still mid-february, as a best-case scenario

k3vin k., Thursday, 13 June 2019 01:58 (four years ago) link

yeah. i'm not "surprised," it seems like the right positioning for a superstar getting this injury at this time on the calendar.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 13 June 2019 02:05 (four years ago) link

they might as well say it, it's not like he can't come back anyway if he wants to. but it stops people from asking.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 13 June 2019 02:15 (four years ago) link

i think there are def still team building concerns as it pertains to paying the tax that go beyond the effect on joe lacob's net worth

J0rdan S., Thursday, 13 June 2019 02:21 (four years ago) link

yup
