i have to wonder at this point how much better of an option boogie is over bogut even. There were numerous times when it felt like he was absolutely gonna cost them the game.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 11 June 2019 19:58 (four years ago) link

still cant believe they let their training staff guru take a new job with the hawks (chelsea lane). the new guy in charge will be fired im sure. theyve mishandled everything in these playoffs, especially the communication. they shouldve ruled KD out for the rest of the season immiediatly on the first injury to take the pressure of coming back. im sure kd and team overrode or at least pushed for playing but man this does not look good. they technically didnt even clear him until like warmups or something. everyone knows he wouldnt have played if they had the lead in the series. really sad all around i hope its not a full tear.

big city slam (Spottie), Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:05 (four years ago) link

boogie gives you an offensive punch or at least the threat of one. and they need offense. i dont mind seeing him out there if looney is hurt but if they are picking on him over and over when you have the lead then you have to get him out.

big city slam (Spottie), Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:07 (four years ago) link

i think boogie and bogut are giving you pretty much the exact same thing on defense -- size, rebounding, and no chance in space -- but boogie is much better offensively, at least in theory. that's why i didn't really mind kerr playing bell in the fourth last night and i'd probably wanna see more minutes from him frankly since he's their only big left w/ any shred of athleticism.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:09 (four years ago) link

yeah its not like they have any really good options at this point

lag∞n, Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:10 (four years ago) link

it seems like with boogie you can tell within 3 or 4 minutes whether he's got it that day or not.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:11 (four years ago) link

boogie was getting fn roasted tho lol, on the other hand him having a big game is one of their realistic paths to taking the series

lag∞n, Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:11 (four years ago) link

the real problem like spottie alluded to is that igoudala was basically unplayable last night. kerr is going to have to be really smart about using his timeouts and manipulating offensive/defensive lineups in dead ball situations in the fourth quarter because clearly the warriors only have 3 guys who you can trust on both ends of the floor.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:12 (four years ago) link

bogut seems less likely than boogie to turn the ball over/stupidly foul when he's beaten off the dribble right now. it's just driving me crazy watching him.
where is iggy on offense is very much the other big question

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:12 (four years ago) link

im fine with him playing bell! but just throwing him in the 4th q of an elimination game when he hadnt played in 2 games was insane.

big city slam (Spottie), Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:13 (four years ago) link

if i was the warriors i'd play a slow game w/ no transition and gear my offense mostly towards 3s and just try and outshoot them, basically

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:16 (four years ago) link

curry gets no rhythm when games are slowed down. you lose any threat of a splashplosion really.

big city slam (Spottie), Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:18 (four years ago) link

and draymond running the break energizes his defense

big city slam (Spottie), Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:19 (four years ago) link

btw bogut is a way better pnr defender than boog and is also an all time screen setter. hes not gonna kill you but you have almost no upside playing him. i like boogie vs second units in general but ibaka has been running circles around him. toronto just has a counter for everything right now, as they should vs the banged up dubs. gonna take a lot of luck and some home cooking to get this to a game 7.

big city slam (Spottie), Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:19 (four years ago) link

somehow iggy had 4 blocks last night lol

big city slam (Spottie), Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:20 (four years ago) link

the warriors are at their best in transition but so are the raptors... there are just no great options

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:22 (four years ago) link

i think draymond running off rebounds and dead balls is sort of its own universe of game play, i just think for various reasons the warriors don't want to get in an up and down game at this point even if that's their best style generally

but also you could argue they could/should play differently at home. i hope the warriors win mostly bcuz this series is really fascinating.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:23 (four years ago) link

this series deserves a game 7

big city slam (Spottie), Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:27 (four years ago) link

ya

lag∞n, Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:32 (four years ago) link

Hoping KD didn't fully tear anything. I don't think he would have been able to limp at all if that was the case. They would have had to carry him off.

DJI, Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:54 (four years ago) link

really find it hard to cheer for the Warriors but it would be insane if they somehow pulled this out

frogbs, Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:56 (four years ago) link

you can walk on a torn achilles. just not a normal walk, cant really push off. its a very strange feeling and not all that painful.

kobe came back and shot free throws after his and then walked to the locker room.

big city slam (Spottie), Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:57 (four years ago) link

Wow. I tore my calf muscle and couldn't walk at all.

DJI, Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:57 (four years ago) link

you feel the muscles snap/curl up into the calf and it just feels all tingly and weird in the calf area. all my sprained ankles hurt 100x more.

big city slam (Spottie), Tuesday, 11 June 2019 20:59 (four years ago) link

i had to sleep in a boot for 6 months which was the worst part for me. i opted to not get surgery tho.

big city slam (Spottie), Tuesday, 11 June 2019 21:02 (four years ago) link

a badly sprained ankle is the worst injury one can sustain that doesn't require a trip to the hospital, in terms of both pain and inconvenience

boobie, Tuesday, 11 June 2019 21:02 (four years ago) link

yeah, i was looking for the bulge/rolled-up lampshade in his leg right after but it's tough to make out on the teevee

gbx, Tuesday, 11 June 2019 21:03 (four years ago) link

100% agree xp

big city slam (Spottie), Tuesday, 11 June 2019 21:03 (four years ago) link

i fucked up my achilles badly playing pickup in college... landed on my toe on a jump shot and the front of my foot pointed backward under my weight. drove home using my arm to hit the clutch; no idea how i managed that. it remains a definite top five worst all time injury in my mind. i remember the windowshade calf thing too; absolutely horrifying.
retract my earlier cynical comment on KD. hope he's able to come back in 2020.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 11 June 2019 21:08 (four years ago) link

boobie otm

k3vin k., Tuesday, 11 June 2019 22:07 (four years ago) link

i sprained my ankle 2x in a five minute span playing hoops in high school and after it swelled to the size of a grapefruit, i was hyped up after the first one and didn't feel pain and thought i could play through it which was...an error in judgment.

omar little, Tuesday, 11 June 2019 22:15 (four years ago) link

I've been worrying about re-injuring my ankles and 1st time injuring my knees...now I gotta worry about tearing an achilles. There's just too many body parts, it's a bit much.

7 game playoff series between upper and lower body, loser gets sent to the g league

i was very close to a good friend of mine on the court when he badly sprained his ankle and it sounded like someone dropped a cinder block onto the concrete

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 12 June 2019 01:16 (four years ago) link

i did a v minor sprain of my left ankle and a week or so later fully rolled my right just catching a stair wrong and lemme tell you walking was pretty fun for a couple weeks there

Clay, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 01:33 (four years ago) link

my severe sprain happened when i was playing tennis a few years ago. i had never rolled one really good before and my friend caitlyn was laughing at me b/c according to her i have tiny baby ankles and she was surprised i wasn't spraining them constantly.

when I tore my ACL playing soccer one of the guys I was playing with stopped short fifteen feet away and asked "what was that" at the snapping sound

gbx, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 02:42 (four years ago) link

i don't know how old y'all are but i had a weird experience recently: after spraining both ankles many (at least a half-dozen each) times in my younger hoopin' years, i hadn't in a while, and a couple months ago i stepped on a pine cone, turned my ankle and fell down.

i'm 43 now and found myself feeling very, very unsteady and almost scared for weeks ... like i had pine cone ptsd. when i went back to the area where it happened, i could feel a visceral unease inside me. basically, i thought, "this is probably what it feels like to be 87 years old and one bad fall away from the end"

getting old sucks, is what i'm saying.

alpine static, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 02:49 (four years ago) link

Oh man my last sprain before surgery was on a pine cone! And I was golfing and using a cart lol. It was the walk back to the cart after my drive waking down a little incline grass mound and a pine cone sitting in the grass. I’ve never been more pissed in my life. I have ptsd too, I pretty much look down at every step I take now + walk pretty gingerly.

big city slam (Spottie), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 02:55 (four years ago) link

i'm close enough to forty, yeah. my minor sprain of my left ankle was from stepping weird after almost tripping on a laptop power cord. after the big turn on my other ankle i started taking stairs very gingerly and w/ a lot of mindful caution and that was like six months ago

Clay, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 02:57 (four years ago) link

even these nba guys a lot of the worst injuries are weird non contact things

coach nick had a doctor on who thinks durants two injuries are likely related and that prob he didnt take enough time getting back up to basketball speed

I’m 37. Had surgery on the left ankle (to clean out bone spurs and tighten the ligaments) and left knee (meniscus) at the same time about 11 years ago. I had sprained that ankle 7 times in my early twenties (mostly basketball but one playing racketball) and the pine cone roll put me over the top. Only had one sprain since and it was to the right ankle. I do double ankle braces now like curry.

big city slam (Spottie), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 03:14 (four years ago) link

Kinda surprised we haven’t got the official diagnosis on KD yet

big city slam (Spottie), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 03:21 (four years ago) link

Either it is unclear exactly how bad the damage is, or they are playing it close to the vest bcz of KD free agency.

A is for (Aimless), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 03:43 (four years ago) link

I sprained my left ankle about a year ago playing basketball, my first ankle sprain or really injury of any kind -- surprising given how active I am. it was excruciatingly painful and I was really worried I'd broken it, though honestly that might have been better. I wear an ankle brace now and while I am probably close to 100%, it still feels weird sometimes and will swell up if I play a lot of hoops or tennis or whatever, and I'm constantly terrified of re-spraining it. it sucks!

k3vin k., Wednesday, 12 June 2019 03:57 (four years ago) link

turning 30 in a week btw, was almost 29 when it happened. I've been really fortunate

k3vin k., Wednesday, 12 June 2019 03:58 (four years ago) link

Dude happy 30th

big city slam (Spottie), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 04:03 (four years ago) link

clemenza, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 11:25 (four years ago) link

I wear braces on both ankles. For awhile 1 or both of my ankles was getting really sore after a long hike. But idk it's like the ligaments finally repaired themselves and strengthened, 23 years after the initial sprain in gym class. Last year or so they haven't bothered me even a lil bit. I'm 40+ so had p much been resigned to the fact that they'd always bother me and would only deteriorate.
