And of course in Spain you have Banda de Payasos Dementes and their hardcore fans 'Los Malabaristolós'

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Tuesday, 11 June 2019 13:40 (four years ago) link

Autechre's fans are essentially an autistic subculture. Oh, and don't forget The Grateful Dead!

I'll see myself out

Silver Jews

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 21:37 (four years ago) link

Maybe a stretch but after learning they exist, people that still stan Sublime in 2019 must be considered an (admittedly, extremely tiny) subgenre, no?

Also, astounded that Juggalos haven't been mentioned yet.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 13 June 2019 18:07 (four years ago) link

Subculture is what I obviously meant, thanks phone.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 13 June 2019 18:08 (four years ago) link

wait how has no one mentioned ICP & Juggalos yet??????? They are the only true example left, besides Phish Phans I guess. but Juggalos are the only true subculture, Phish Phans and Deadheads going to see Bob & co. are more integrated into mainstream society.

flappy bird, Thursday, 13 June 2019 18:10 (four years ago) link

ha was just coming here to post about the gatherings of the juggalos

hollow your fart (m bison), Thursday, 13 June 2019 18:45 (four years ago) link

ICP has a subculture of fans. They are known as Jugheads.

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Thursday, 13 June 2019 18:52 (four years ago) link

Huh, Silver Jews?

All those middle aged men drinking white wine in the sun.

kraudive, Friday, 14 June 2019 18:45 (four years ago) link

Also. ICP. C'mon.

kraudive, Friday, 14 June 2019 18:46 (four years ago) link

frogbs, Friday, 14 June 2019 18:52 (four years ago) link

cwkiii, Saturday, 15 June 2019 01:22 (four years ago) link

Anti-Cop Ponceortium (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 5 August 2020 20:26 (three years ago) link

Crazy to think that this thread was started EXACTLY two years and one day ago and no one has mentioned Insane Clown Posse yet.

pomenitul, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 20:27 (three years ago) link

frogbs, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 20:32 (three years ago) link

Do juggalos know about Insane Clown Posse? I could seem them being fans.

jmm, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 20:34 (three years ago) link

they are both "down with the clown" (fans of krusty the klown)

methinks dababy doth bop shit too much (m bison), Wednesday, 5 August 2020 20:37 (three years ago) link

you're also forgetting the fans of Jimmy Buffett. They're called Juggalos iirc.

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Wednesday, 5 August 2020 20:52 (three years ago) link

*thinks about it for the first time, 0.2 seconds later becomes furious that Jimmy Buffett fans are not called Buffalos*

Steppin' RZA (sic), Wednesday, 5 August 2020 21:42 (three years ago) link

what was the name of that group that did "Magnetcles"?

XVI Pedicabo eam (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 5 August 2020 22:05 (three years ago) link

I know they're not exactly favorites around here, but you gotta recognize Insane Clown Posse and their fans who call themselves "Juggalos"

Thicc Nhat Wanh (rip van wanko), Wednesday, 5 August 2020 22:11 (three years ago) link

I actually like them a lot. Please don't FP me.

pomenitul, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 22:12 (three years ago) link

FP? Faygo please?

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Wednesday, 5 August 2020 22:31 (three years ago) link

Carcass fans should be called Jugulars

doorstep jetski (dog latin), Wednesday, 5 August 2020 22:49 (three years ago) link

Iirc fans of the Dave Matthews Band call themselves the Insane Clown Posse. Just a weird coincidence.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 23:05 (three years ago) link

I call them frat boys, boom, roasted

Thicc Nhat Wanh (rip van wanko), Wednesday, 5 August 2020 23:10 (three years ago) link

“Insane Clown Pose” is my favorite Soundgarden song

can't believe nobody has thought of ICP!

come on u sleepin'

Neanderthal, Saturday, 5 September 2020 02:19 (three years ago) link

hey, just seeing this thread was bumped -- have Juggalos been mentioned? I saw a meme about them the other day and they definitely appear to be a subculture -- I think the meme involved Juggalos vs. Neo-nazis?

sarahell, Saturday, 5 September 2020 02:23 (three years ago) link

oh shit, also, that reminds me -- the Grateful Dead definitely had this!! I mean, I know I am from the San Francisco Bay Area, but I think "Deadheads" are fairly well known?

sarahell, Saturday, 5 September 2020 02:33 (three years ago) link

Huh, I had no idea but that sounds really cool. What does ICP stand for?

xp

pomenitul, Saturday, 5 September 2020 02:34 (three years ago) link

It’s Cool, Parrotheads!

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Saturday, 5 September 2020 03:05 (three years ago) link

By coincidence, "Parrotheads" themselves might actually qualify for this thread. That's what Jimmy Buffett fans are known as, and now that I think about it they are kind of their own subculture.

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Saturday, 5 September 2020 04:05 (three years ago) link

Shit, long story, but back in 1998 me and about 14 other LA-area people who were HUGE fans of Eve 6 (you remember them - "wanna put my tender heart in a blender, watch it spin round to a beautiful oblivion, rendezvous and I'm through with you!"; great song) were paid by their label RCA Records to walk a few blocks down Hollywood Blvd to the Capitol Records building where there was a big release party going on for Garth Brooks because of three albums of his they were re-releasing that day. Me and all the other Eve 6 guys, we called ourselves The Sixers like it was like our gang name, and we did anything RCA told us to do to promote Eve 6. Anyway, one day that April, Capitol Records literally paid us $500 each to go walk down there, scope them all out, identify the weakest targets, and then get back to our rental car, drive it up to the Garth Brooks thing and run out and kidnap four of his fans, take them to the alley behind the Sunset Blvd Denny's, and beat them to within inches of their life with baseball bats. RCA thought this would somehow increase Eve 6's record sales! Of course we all did this without hesitation because hey it was 1998, MDMA was a new drug (that we were all taking), we were fueled by that and the propulsive energy of Eve 6, and frankly we needed the money!!!

Anyway, yeah, cliffs notes version for the thread: Eve 6 fans call themselves "Sixers," or at least we did back in '98.

The Denny’s at Sunset & Van Ness or the Denny’s at Sunset & Gower?

“Pizza House!” (morrisp), Saturday, 5 September 2020 05:58 (three years ago) link

New Model Army Family are they separate enough?
I think they overlapped heavily with Levellers fans or even split off to follow them more.
Funny to see the band is either still around or reunited, they have a few pages in VIve Le Rock which I haven't read yet.

Eskimoes following the MIssion but not sure they would have been entirely separate from other early 70s rock Goth heads. Or did they fight themn on the beaches with Sisters of Mercy fans?

Stevolende, Saturday, 5 September 2020 09:17 (three years ago) link

we're just gonna ignore burrito's post like almost every other post in this thread then?

in that case, Insane Clown Posse
