I mean good info too but you still have to separate the wheat from the chaff

xps to Rush, I rarely read AT and haven’t really been following this story, but did they not report him or something? Anyway I more usually read the Register for similar sort of news, sometimes EFF for more detailed coverage of privacy/surveillance etc.

I use the following list of sites. Number 7 will amaze you.

I, too, find that the thoughtful editorial function played by ilxors in sifting information prior to posting it here makes ilx an excellent jumping off spot into the more valuable bits of the web. I appreciate this place (and you people) enormously.

Yeah, the Register do some OK reporting. Their house style is too BOFH-centric for my liking, but as these things go sarcasm overdose is probably one of the least worst things one can encounter when reading tech news...
I love ILX lots and have gotten plenty of good information here, but I also feel like the volume here isn't enough that I can trust threads here to tell me everything I need to know. (If the particular issue I'm delicately dancing around has been brought up on ILX before now, for instance, I've missed it.)
Regarding AT I'm not following the story super closely, and much of what's out there is, surprise surprise, some variety of Internet alarmism, but my general impression at this point, without wishing to get into horrific details, is that there's enough "there" there for me to not want to read that site anymore.

xp then I suggest you consume your meed of alarmist musical hyperbole and make no complaint, as others here seem intent on doing, to their everlasting shame.

it feels to me that there is more enthusiasm on ilm than ile, more of a genuine sense of “I love…” which is thrilling as far as I'm concerned
if music isn’t your thing than *maybe* I can see it being annoying, but if you really do love music it is the best place on the internet
...and the best place for getting information about music

nothing more ilx than a question on ilx being answered with 'ilx' and then ilx0rs beefing about which parts of ilx are better than other parts of ilx then someone suggests a poll

Weird, I was just reading a similar thread on Metafilter but there it got deep into whether their site is an 'echo chamber' or not. I'd say both this site and that one have filter bubble tendencies but terms like echo chamber are actually pretty nebulous. My immediate reaction to the Metafilter thread was "yeah but ILE is kind of better."
― viborg, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 04:28 (four years ago) link
Was also just thinking I should change my bookmark from ILM to ILE. Over the years, the focus of ILM seems to have narrowed considerably, or possibly my tastes have just diverged. Not nearly as interested in old straight white dude music as I used to be. Whereas at a glance the focus of ILE has broadened, or become less of a clique maybe.
I also used to read a lot of different blogs and aggregators, so much of it has moved to the main social media sites now. Shitshow.

i don't know if ilx is an "echo chamber" but i did start a thread asking for good sites for information and immediately everybody started talking about ilx, which kind of wasn't what i was looking for? but ok.
― Flood-Resistant Mirror-Drilling Machine (rushomancy), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 09:35 (four years ago) link
You specifically asked people on ILX where they get their information from tbf
― quelle sprocket damage (sic), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 10:21 (four years ago) link
this is true! i should have specified "besides ilx"; i kind of took that for granted!
