First heard her a couple of years ago when she released a rather austere folk EP 'Church'. Her cover of 'I'm Not in Love' appeared on my Spotify feed a couple of months agp and I was, ho-hum this is a disappointment, going for a rather straight cover of a classic rock song. Then her album came out and damn, it's my album of the year, lush, reflective gothic pop. I've realised I was wrong about 'I'm in Love' which is angry and defiant as opposed to the bittersweet hurt of the original.

Saw her at Primavera Sound last year. Was a tad disappointed she didn't perform with a cello.

Yeah, this is a fantastic album. It's interesting to compare her arranging chops to Weyes Blood- the way they toy with seventies pop ironically, without the final product being ironic. They're both amazing singers, even more amazing conceptualists, and still keep those talents in the service of tight, askew songs.

gender-flipped and genuinely dismissive "I'm Not In Love" kind of a brilliant idea

Yeah, works brilliantly as a riposte to the protagonist in the original.
