You want to believe in a host team brimming with talent, but choke potential is high
always root for france, to no avail. shanice van de sanden was fantastic in the champs lge final and is v fun to watch so would like to see the netherlands do well especially as van de donk is class as well.

This song.. is not my kind of song
Yeah I'm just waiting on the game itself.

this year I am supporting the goalkeepers of all nations. may they show their fast-improving skill and avoid disaster at all turns
― imago, Friday, 7 June 2019 19:00 (four years ago) link
Obvious I know but goalkeeping is always gonna look poor in the women's game cos the goals are too big
― oscar bravo, Friday, 7 June 2019 19:05 (four years ago) link
Watching a French team without Necib doesn't seem right. No Abily either I think. At least le sommer is still there.

Honestly just treating the second half as an extended cut remix.
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 7 June 2019 20:34 (four years ago) link
Yeah we needed that Henry goal just to give the 2nd half some color
― abcfsk, Friday, 7 June 2019 20:46 (four years ago) link
Germany team seems to have changed a lot from the last time I remember following them. Only players I can recall are marozsan and popp.

Oh and dabritz
― oscar bravo, Saturday, 8 June 2019 12:59 (four years ago) link
China completely fucked up that transition. Should have been a goal. All stemming from a criminally bad square pass. Houillier will be getting ginola flashbacks.
― oscar bravo, Saturday, 8 June 2019 13:16 (four years ago) link
Germany running out of ideas here. Need one of the centre backs to step into midfield occasionally.
― oscar bravo, Saturday, 8 June 2019 13:41 (four years ago) link
China off the post. Germany look completely shook at the back.
― oscar bravo, Saturday, 8 June 2019 13:45 (four years ago) link
Frustrated German team. Lack a strategy in the box
― abcfsk, Saturday, 8 June 2019 13:57 (four years ago) link
fuck is this referee doing, that's two fks against china in two minutes for completely fair tackles
― imago, Saturday, 8 June 2019 14:09 (four years ago) link
just straight up gave germany a free-kick when their player dragged down the chinese one
― imago, Saturday, 8 June 2019 14:24 (four years ago) link
chinese players got away with murder in the first half tho
― abcfsk, Saturday, 8 June 2019 14:28 (four years ago) link
bad refereeing both ways is still bad refereeing!
good hit for the german goal
― imago, Saturday, 8 June 2019 14:30 (four years ago) link
Spain pretty lucky. 1-0 down for most of the game and out of jail thanks to two penalties.

Caroline Graham Hansen best in the world 1v1 possibly

var strikes again. italy 'goal' off a beautiful through ball ruled out on the tightest of margins. i assume australia are favourites here but italy have started well.

Offside is fucking ridiculous now. May as well ban forward passes.
― Bash Street Kids: Endgame (Bananaman Begins), Sunday, 9 June 2019 12:00 (four years ago) link
terrible defending but that's a calm dribble and finish from the italy #11.probably jinx her but the italian goalie has looked impressively assured.

Deep women's football cut: Sam, Kerr Ladies
― Bash Street Kids: Endgame (Bananaman Begins), Sunday, 9 June 2019 12:25 (four years ago) link
feel like the nu-var era we are in where ref assistants can't flag for offside until the attacking phase is completed is changing the game in some fundamental way that i can't articulate but am uneasy with.
― oscar bravo, Sunday, 9 June 2019 12:34 (four years ago) link
Oh fucking hell. That one was slightly offside tbf, but even a legit close offside now feels like its ruining the game.
― Bash Street Kids: Endgame (Bananaman Begins), Sunday, 9 June 2019 12:40 (four years ago) link
australia play with such a stupidly high line that every game they play will have like 5 var reviews.tbf all the initial decisions by the on field officials have been proved correct. i'd probably prefer the law to be if any of the attackers body is onside then they are onside rahter than if any of their body is offside then they're offside.
― oscar bravo, Sunday, 9 June 2019 12:51 (four years ago) link
italy winner 5th minute of stoppage time!!

Yay! As noted by the bbc commentator, australia didn't seem to get the 'no diving in womens football' memo
― Bash Street Kids: Endgame (Bananaman Begins), Sunday, 9 June 2019 12:57 (four years ago) link
Glad I caught the last ten minutes of that.

Barbara Bonansea was destined for a great tournament
― abcfsk, Sunday, 9 June 2019 13:07 (four years ago) link
Think Australia will win the next two and go through but
a) a bit sloppy/nervous todayb) think they're slightly overrated in general / have had messy behind the scenes stuff disrupt preparationsc) their troubles in defense are well known
Not a bad match between Brazil and Jamaica but that second Christiane goal probably seals it.

I also really like the Netherlands in general, actually, so it’s such a treat to watch this game
― John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt, Sunday, 7 July 2019 16:40 (four years ago) link
Deserved win of course. Too bad VAR had to secure it. Otoh they would have scored at some point.
― Ludo, Sunday, 7 July 2019 16:41 (four years ago) link
giving the Dutch keeper WOTM in the 86th minute is tempting fate
― wot's the tea mum? (not beef again) (DJ Mencap), Sunday, 7 July 2019 16:47 (four years ago) link
Not really too bad that VAR spotted a chest-high assault that the ref missed. Xp
Hope theh snub Trump now
― or something, Sunday, 7 July 2019 16:47 (four years ago) link
Yeah that challenge really should have been picked up by the ref in the first place. Stonewall peno

Six women make up the group. They are: Karen Dunn Kelley, Deputy Secretary of Commerce; Jamie D. McCourt, U.S. Ambassador to France and Monaco; Josephine K. Olsen, director of the Peace Corps; Seema Verma, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; Marie Royce, Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs; Shauna Rohbock, U.S. Army National Guard and former pro soccer player, and Kelly Loeffler, CEO of Bakkt and co-owner of the Atlanta Dream.

Rapinoe's World Cup has to be up there with the greatest all-time talk-and-back-it-up performances in sports history. Tangle with a President and win World Cup and MVP? A socially conscious athlete pilloried for patriotism? No one will *ever* be Ali, but there's Ali in Rapinoe.— Jason Gay (@jasongay) July 7, 2019
