Kicking myself for missing Anisimova/Halep. I should have realized they would be scheduled to play early, after yesterday's rainouts. Tomorrow, I'll get up at 5AM for the semis probably to find that it's raining in Paris again.
I really want to enjoy watching Anisimova reach the top now, before we all get sick of her being constantly in commercials over the coming years.

vondorousova is really goodid not be surprised by any of them doing it at this pt tbhid put konta last as thinking she'll do it, but shes running super hot this clay season

Insane women's SFs
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 10:14 (four years ago) link
Two teens in the final would be some kind of thing!
― abcfsk, Friday, 7 June 2019 10:36 (four years ago) link
Konya fails to serve for the set
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 10:40 (four years ago) link
Vondrousova played a fantastic TB to win that. Beautiful get from the back of the court and then dropshot to win
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 10:54 (four years ago) link
Lot of questions for Konta to answer.
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 10:55 (four years ago) link
And now it's 12pm and Nadal Fed
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 10:56 (four years ago) link
so happy for ash
― oscar bravo, Friday, 7 June 2019 11:00 (four years ago) link
Nadal up a break but conditions are challenging for both. F has BP
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 11:30 (four years ago) link
Back on serve
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 11:31 (four years ago) link
Epic set, epic game
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 11:42 (four years ago) link
Took a while but has a break Rafa
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 11:43 (four years ago) link
I hate playing tennis in the wind. It's hard for me to enjoy watching even Rafa and Roger doing it.
― punning display, Friday, 7 June 2019 12:00 (four years ago) link
I quite admire how well they are playing in the circumstances.
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 12:03 (four years ago) link
Oh for sure, and it's even tougher on clay where a gust can blow the stuff into your face.
― punning display, Friday, 7 June 2019 12:09 (four years ago) link
What a get from Nadal to break back here
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 12:18 (four years ago) link
Incredible game from Nadal to make it 4-4. Fed threw everything at him but Rafa held on..
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 12:42 (four years ago) link
Now deuce Fed, from 40-0
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 12:45 (four years ago) link
A fucking masterclass, what a break. Ok a couple of Used from Fed but genius level. Serving for the set.
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 12:48 (four years ago) link
*UEs from Fed
It's 2-0, great great stuff.
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 12:51 (four years ago) link

agree, this match could have been miles better & we sadly will almost surely never see them play on clay again
― johnny crunch, Friday, 7 June 2019 13:18 (four years ago) link
ITV just had an awful debate (between 3 guys) on the scheduling.
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 14:00 (four years ago) link
And now Them and Djoko facing the wind
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 14:05 (four years ago) link
Novak can't cope with the conditions, 5-2 down and he's asking questions. Thiem is doing better and serving for the set
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 14:31 (four years ago) link
Djoko playing a bit better since he had BP on his serve in the 2nd set. Good game at the net to get out of that and there is a bit more focus now. On serve.
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 14:51 (four years ago) link
Rain has stopped play
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 14:54 (four years ago) link
We got back from the rain and Djoko carried on playing, broken Thiem and has just served it out
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 15:19 (four years ago) link
Holy fuck just unbelievable recovery from Thiem and then a win on DP - BP Thiem
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 15:26 (four years ago) link
Doesn't get it and Djoko gets the game. All on serve and the match is delivering now.
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 15:34 (four years ago) link
Thiem is all blood and guts - breaking Novak's serve and now there's more rain
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 7 June 2019 15:42 (four years ago) link
Thiem has won the 3rd but Djoko is up a break at the next
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2019 11:21 (four years ago) link
Thiem is having to hold himself a bit, Djoko all over him - a 5th very much on the cards
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2019 11:25 (four years ago) link
And Thiem breaks right back (pathetic DP from Djoko) then holds with an ace and now Djoko has to hold serve to stay in the French Open
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2019 11:34 (four years ago) link
Great BH from Thiem to force error: 0-15
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2019 11:35 (four years ago) link
Return just long: 15-15
and long again: 15-30
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2019 11:36 (four years ago) link
Just didn't play this too well, played a lot long for Djoko to hold
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2019 11:38 (four years ago) link
Beautiful lob Thiem: 15-15
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2019 11:39 (four years ago) link
A DF hnads a break to Novak who worked Thiem really well. Serving for the set and a decider
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2019 11:43 (four years ago) link
Two set points
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2019 11:46 (four years ago) link
Needed one
Great set so far - a couple of break points either saved, both saved.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2019 12:08 (four years ago) link
*either way
Thiem breaks and was looking like an easy hold until a DF. Gets through. Novak needs to pull out all the stops here.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2019 12:17 (four years ago) link
Rain break with Djoko serving at deuce
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 June 2019 12:25 (four years ago) link
I hate these rain delays - Djokovic doesn't need any help regaining momentum.
Husband and I have been on the road for four hours right now (it's Eid weekend here in Malaysia) - listening to tennis on the radio is weirdly more intense than watching it on TV.
― Roz, Saturday, 8 June 2019 12:33 (four years ago) link
I have only had one favorite tennis player ever. I'm glad I picked Nadal. He could end up with the record for most grand slam wins ever and keep it for 100 years. Stay healthy my man.
― ilm jive mind (FlopsyDuck), Thursday, 13 June 2019 13:50 (four years ago) link
The "how many slams do you think Federer can win" conversation from that thread is amazing in retrospect.
― brigadier pudding (DJP), Thursday, 13 June 2019 14:49 (four years ago) link
lol i feel like I must have been that gulbis quote. the poster boy for squandered potential.
it's crazy that we're still talking about Fed/Nadal a decade later.
― Roz, Thursday, 13 June 2019 15:48 (four years ago) link
Roz! It was you! Aw, I thought he was great too. Did actually beat Fed at RG... 2014?
I wish I could remember (I could look it up) who put me straight about Rafa on the Wimb 2003 thread. I was shocked this teen had just dumped out Ancic, and someone said "watch this kid - he's going to be amazing". Maybe that was you too.
― Michael Jones, Thursday, 13 June 2019 16:24 (four years ago) link
lol I have an incredibly embarrassing Halep post on that 2009 thread
― brigadier pudding (DJP), Thursday, 13 June 2019 16:25 (four years ago) link
lol i still think of halep as a youngish player and then the reality of how long she's been on tour hits.
― oscar bravo, Thursday, 13 June 2019 16:31 (four years ago) link
You were in good company, Dan. Lex practically made an emoji out of her a few posts later. Well, hey.
Fed to end his career at Basel 2021 with 22 Slams (another W, another USO); 18 for Rafa (next year Thiem beats him at RG and Rafa retires), 16 for Novak (one more AO but a general slump from now on. Please). Murray plays another 18 months on the singles tour from late this year, makes top 25 but no better than L16 in Slams and misses a medal in Tokyo. Thiem #1 end of 2020, Tsitipas thereafter, then Auger-A. Zverev Olympic gold but continues to underachieve elsewhere. All hugely wishful thinking.
Let's check back in 2029 :)

xposts nope, wasn't me - I didn't post on ILX until 2005, and only started on the tennis threads around 2008 I think.
I miss Lex around here, but he still posts tennis updates on twitter.
Speaking of Mario Ancic, look at this Wall Street goof: http://www.oneequity.com/team/bio/50
I love that his work bio completely neglects to mention his tennis career.
